I vote this will take longer than a week considering there is only 1 or 2 ring games going maybe 10-12 hours a day. Plus it's only Spades that count.

I hope the board is AKQJT of Spades and everyone at the table still in the hand wins an ipad. The rules do not state you have to use with of your cards.

because the original text which said, if there are no callers on the river made it sound like there needed to be a bet on the river.

It should have said just that the hand needs to go to showdown only, unless they are saying that there does need to be a bet.

when i know i can't win on the river, especially in multiway pots, i just fold instead of check to save myself 5 seconds.

It's not playing dirty. Since the rules indicate only the first one who hits it gets the ipad it's an +EV play folding when you have no chance of winning it yourself.

Folding isn't an ev play because if you do it to people, people will find out and do it to you later. It's a lose lose proposition.

That's why they need to offer something to the whole table or at least the ones who check otherwise people will keep folding.
