    Any Las Vegas locals.??
I have been playing no limit for a little while now and have been beating the northern california rooms for quite some time. I am almost strictly a brick and mortar player who rarely used to play online and NEVER do any longer. I am looking for a few local casinos that have good comp plans (seems $1 an hour is the norm) as well as a decent tournament here or there (100-200 buy in). I play no limit hold em 3-5 in northern ca. but it seems to me that 1-2 games in vegas aren't very difficult. I am looking to make a modest living for now (4-5k a month). Any locals that are playing have any advice?? Or possibly willing to get together with others and work on our games, and go over scenarios?? Let me know thanks guys!!!

I'm local and I play cards for a living. Feel free to ask me any questions you like.

For info on Vegas cardrooms the best resource is the forums at allvegaspoker.com. Don't expect to make 4-5K/month playing 1/2NL. It's possible to make that much or slightly more playing 2/5, but you'd have to put in 30+ hour weeks and practice good game selection on top of being an excellent player, and you'd have to do that without burning yourself out.

From an intellectual standpoint, it's not all that difficult to play professionally... any dedicated, non-compulsive gambler with an IQ over 95 could probably do it well enough to get by. The challenge is more emotional. If you can't handle stress and aren't able to shake off adversity then forget it. Playing professionally requires a sort of emotional "chin" that a lot of people just don't have.

I plan on playing at least 50 hours a week. You are probably right though. 2/5 probably more realistic.

      Where do you enjoy playing?

Where dp you make the most?

Any home games that you frequent?

      how long you been playing?

How do you handle money management?

      T inhanks advance.

I played local 3/5 games for more tf then a year and made 41000 that tast. I have some experience but the motte the better. Fo you have any mentors?

I've grinded that many hours in spurts, but to do it consistently pretty much guarantees burnout imho.

I like Wynn and Venetian the best, but I try to follow the softest games. I play 2/5NLHE 99% of the time, and there aren't a whole lot of casinos that will spread that limit.

Where dp you make the most?
I don't know, and even if I did the sample size would be too small to make it useful. I just try to play well in soft games and let the rest take care of itself.

Any home games that you frequent?
A home game in Vegas for non-trivial stakes is most likely some sort of scam.

          how long you been playing?
Professionally for a little over 8 years.

How do you handle money management?
30 buy-ins plus some living expenses stashed away. I don't let myself go off for 3 buy-ins in a day, but unless I'm short stacking that never happens anyway.

          you have any mentors?
          No.

A former co-worker of mine literally just quit his job and decided to move out to Vegas. He had a really good first weekend, but that didn't last long. He is currently looking for a job out there. Keep us posted on how you guys do out there in Vegas, part of me really wants to move out there.

I think the best action you can get in Vegas would be in the Casinos. I wouldn't go to a home game in Vegas unless the game was really soft and didn't rake, but I would be VERY suspicious of something like that. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

The Palazzo book is the nicest for sweating games, although there a few better books for actually betting. Most of the good betting outs are offstrip, but Wynn has good lines and the Cantor books (Cosmopolitan and Tropicana on the strip) aren't bad either for betting purposes.

Ian, would you suggest someone just uprooting themselves and moving out to Vegas? What are the chances of someone like being able to get by playing 1-2 NL? How is the job market out there? What kind of jobs are available? What are the chances of me getting hired in the pawn store featured on PAWN STARS? How is the cost of living? How cheap are the buffets in the casinos?
