What you are seeing is pokers version of baby boomers. During the "poker boom" a few years ago...who had the most time to play and study the game? College students. Now those guys are 23-27 years old.

with so many online geeks in it, it makes sense, there's not that many old farts with 10k laying around anymore but thousands of online qualifiers from all the sites.

if grinder wins it, will he get WSOP player of the year?
he will tie for points; but he will have 1 less cashed, but he will have 6 times as much money won.

Grinder is obviously the best player but like Ivey last year, has a weak chip stack. Don't think about betting him to win despite whatever odds you get.

That couldn't be more wrong. If anything, it's just another year for the professional young online grinders. The WSOP is filled with 20 and 30 somethings that are all pretty solid players and have literally spent their entire lives hoping to break through in one of these.

most, if not all but 2, have not hit a bad bad run of cards to where their bankroll management needs to be reworked, and start from scratch. Final table shoot have fireworks going, because most are online players, they play a lot more aggressive.
You are right about the "professional" thing; a lot of young guys say they are professional, but they could only be making 20k a year. Which means they are still trying to move up in the betting: disaster ahead!
