TEXAS HOLDEM EM - TABLE GAME --- Need advice on Strategy
I just started playing this game, and doing pretty well at it. I dont play the top bet called " trips or better". I only play the ante and blind bet where you can back it up with 1X to 4 X your bet.

The other day I was backing it up with 4X my original bet on any pocket pair of 9 or higher or anything where I have to big cards suited like k and ace of clubs. Even 4x sometimes if they arent suited.

I also go 2X after the flop if I have a pair ( one in my hand and 1 on the board ) assuming I dont have bottome pair with a crap kicker.

So I was doing this the other day and got killed, but I have always done it that way and won pretty good. Just dont have enough playing time at this game to know whether I have been getting lucky or if last time was just a bad day.

I notice the others at the table tell me I am playing bad backing up with 4x on even pocket Jacks, too easy to lose it they say.

I also notice that some players wont back it up until all 5 community cards are shown no matter what they have, whcih I know is bad strategy. But I also know maybe my strategy needs some improvement.

So when do you guys back it up, do you also wait until the end ?

    When should I go 4 X ? Only on pocket ace ?

Let me know please because I have only played this game maybe 7-8 times.

    TIA

Bad beat from hell the other day.

I bet $50 in Ante and $50 in Blind ( This is more than my usual bet but I am down and chasing )

I get Q Clubs and Ace Clubs

I back it up with $200 because this is a chance to get close to even.

Flop comes Q Hearts A Hearts and 6 of diamonds I think

I am thinking Full House would get my even now

Turn River comes 9 spades, 2 diamonds

I have top 2 pair, and there is no flush or straight possible.

Dealer flips 2 of hearts and 2 of clubs

Go to wizardofodds.com, this guy has the basic strategy all layed out. You are playing way too conservatively, you will be surprised at the range of hands to go allin preflop with.

Flopped Quad 3's last night. Dont play the top, but I did have $25 on the blind so that was $250 on the blind plus $25 on the ante and another $50 on the backup bet.

Ended up winning about $300 for the night and we all got a $20 steak dinner comped. And it was good.

You need to play more aggressive in cash games. When your raising with ONLY big hands all the time you will get called then raised if no high cards are flopped. You need to mix up your game a little bit.

The rule you have to remember about the current Texas hold-em creed, is anybody who's an idiot can get lucky and win, they don't play the game the way it was meant to play, I mean I go all in with pocket Aces $15,000 in chips, and this other dork goes all in with 9-2 and flops a full house luckily another ace came up and I was higher the flop was 9-2-2-A-K. I won the hand, but it shows the mentality of idots that play the game now. The best way to play hold-em, go all in before the flop with pocket K's or Aces, hope you get 1 call, get those straight and flush holders out before the flop.

I agree. I can't even count on how many times I have had top pair preflop...for example..flop shows 2 low non suited cards and an A which gives me trips....guy goes all in...I call and end up losing cause he ends up with a full house...he only had a pair of 2s after the flop...GROSS!

in my opinion (for what its worth) youve been lucky but i also believe you've been some.what conservative in your betting. The betting statagies are different for every game you play and every opponant you play as well. in online poker. consider yourself beat unless you have the nuts for an allin call for live cash games youve got to watch your opponants and learn how they play but i am not a fan of indescriminate allins. gets expensive if you get called on a marginal hand even pocket jacks. unless your shortstacked don't be too quick to do the allin game.

i kind of like your strategy to be honest. ive only played the game a handful of times for an attempt at a quick hit and run. the only thing i dont like is your cutoff of 9s or better when making the 4x raise. when i played i only made the 4x raise when holding QQ+. also, i made the 2x raise on the flop when i hit a pair and just hoped to hold. i guess theres a few strategies out there and im sure most of them require you to play extremely tight, but like i said i only play this game for a quick hit and run. gl in the future though.
