There are a bunch of differences. Probably the biggest one being that cash games play with much deeper stacks than tournaments typically do.

They are played completely differently. Cash is cash and Tchips change value. Less variance in cash. Should really read some threads in 2+2 in cash game forums if you're looking to make the switch and start out at lower limits than usual for the transition.

Cash game players are usually better than tournament players because they are more capable of making multiple street decisions since the stacks are deeper in cash game settings. I agree with most of the advice posted before me.

Totally different strategies. Tourneys you have ton contend with blinds being raised and the value of your stack as they increase (the 10x rule etc) and with ring games you need to consider your win rate per hour. Also heads up scenarios become much more significant to your bankroll in cash games. Say you make a misread or get rivered in a $100 + 10 tourney...you lose most or all of your stack...still only the $110 at stake....make the same call in a cash game...you could be looking at a much worse hit to the funds. I would suggest being pretty cautious and play a lot of hands at the lower levels to fell out the ring game difference before playing them more frequently. Good luck to you!

yes, theres a million different strategies for beginners and everyone giving the advice thinks they're the best. try reading around on 2+2, or reading a few books until something sticks. ed miller has a few books for novice players that are okay, and then when you play for a bit and feel comfortable, try reading a few of sklanksy's books for advanced players. i've never read a bad david sklansky book.
