I need help on poker laws

My buddy won 10k online and now he's freaking out about the I.R.S.. I told him it's no problem if he files. He's afraid that playing poker on the internet is illegal. I said not paying taxes is, but playing isn't from what I know.


Anyways... Anyone have any sources to get more info on this? My buddy is concerned and he'd prefer to let the books keep it. I mentioned why lose money on a site and then when you make money, you don't cash out and let the books keep it all.


That must be one of the books favorite customers. One that doesn't pull out or even forgets they have cash on it.

There is an annual thread on 2+2, books (Tax help for gamblers ) and actual professional help.
Thing is most regular tax attorney's don't do have a ton of experience in this part of the field but they certainly are able to find out what to do.
I just know that regular Joe at HR block has no clue.
I'm almost positive that no on has ever been arrested for just playing online poker in the US.
