Maybe you missed this part of the story

PokerStars acquired Full Tilt Poker assets in a deal struck with US Department of Justice on July 31st, 2012. As part of the deal, PokerStars was required to see to the repayment of all Full Tilt Poker players, including $184 million to non-US players. In all, PokerStars agreed to fork over $547 million to settle its legal case, with the US DOJ responsible for repayment to American FTP players.

Meaning they are paying back $184 million to non US players.
their not worried about Americans.

Their reason is everyone else outside of the US. There's plenty of money there for them.

Plus there will be online poker sometime (hopefully) soon, and FT did have the best interface IMO and many others, too.

I still don't know why Pokerstars decided to payoff the FT players, but I haven't been reading up on it all that much.

Also, isn't America's Card Room gearing up too.
I know it's free games for US players, but they look like they are going to be players in real cash games soon for US customers.
