#37Vegas is circling the drain, they might not have enough water in 2 years.
But ANY place is better than Newark I suppose.
But you can live in some hotels for 750 a month, if you want a real dive you can probably find something for 100 a week.
If you have credit and can buy there are a ton of places cheap, but the thing is they'll probably keep going down, so it all depends of if you are going to stay there 'forever' or if you might want to sell your house for more than you paid for it a decade or so down the line.
Bu tif you gamble and arent good at it or compulsive Vegas is a bad spot to be. If you have a decent job and can keep uder control it has decent culture and plenty of stuff to do. It is just expensive to do the 'touristy' stuff but if you live there and gain connections you should be able to do most of it for next to nothing.
the chinese are starting to buy there (residential) in droves. still plenty of opportunity for smart, middle class minded americans to snatch some great property there. markets bottomed out a while ago, now it's all about who has the cash to live mortgage free.Comment -

#40Be forewarned, most of the employment out here requires you to work either nights and/or weekends.
And if you think off-shore books are scared of action...Comment -

Makes it difficult to snag overnight lines, because all the books are closed by the time I get off work, then I want to get good sleep so by the time I wake up and such its already noon and the lines have already moved.
Except the Venetian Book which is 24 hours, but I try to avoid the strip on my days offComment -

I have been here for a year now, but I lived in Texas during the summer
I pay $500 in rent per month, about $100 in gas, $250 in food
I work 2 jobs on the strip
You can make it here on a low income as long as you don't waste money on worthless shit like strip clubs, alcohol, drugs, partying, clubbing, table games, fancy restaraunts; as well as having great money management betting sports and finding a cheap place to live like I did. I live in a 3 bedroom house and rent out a bedroom from the people who live here.
I am down betting sports about $250 since getting back from Texas in July, but I am hoping that WNBA and College Football are going to turn my fortunes around since all of my losses were on baseball
I'd say my monthly budget is probably $1200 a month.
Doesn't hurt that I have money saved in the bank though

none of that stuff sounds worthless, quite the contrary it sounds like a lot of fun and the reason to be in vegas as a young manComment -

#52ok then frogsrangers we agree to disagree
i think there is a ton of value in drinking and gambling, and even going to strip clubs or clubs if you're into that sort of thing
when you're 40 and possibly married, you probably won't regret pissing away a lot of money if you had fun doing it. but on the flip side you might regret not having more fun when you were young and able to

Never been to a strip club and never will, don't get the appeal of paying a girl for the sole purpose of having her pretend to be interested in you
Since I moved here I learn that this city's purpose is to separate you from your money. And I have been pretty good at money management. Have only played blackjack and craps once, and that was with friends who were here for the MWC Basketball Tournament. That is the only time I have played a table game. Not playing table games because they are -EV.
I do bet on sports but I don't make large bets, only 4 times have I made a $100 bet or more. And I have won all 4.
I have seen too many people move here already only to go bust because they have no discipline or self control. They party it up and want to live the Vegas lifestyle but don't budget/plan accordingly. Knew a guy who moved out here and went to the Rhino a lot, clubs and spent lots of money at bars and such, got fired from his job because he kept showing up late because he was always too hungover or tired from partying the night beofre and next thing he knew he was flat broke with no job because he didn't save any of his money but instead wasted it on all the pitfalls of this town.Comment -

Not sure if I am going to Mandalay Bay or not tomorrow
Might be the Venetian since I am off of work at 1:00am and that's the only place I can bet overnight lines at that time of the nightComment -

#62I spend a lot of my time at Mandalay, frogs. Although they have refused to take the size wagers I like to place sometimes before, so I had to run to Luxor and place the same bet. A little annoying. Seems like a tourist-catered book but they've only limited my action twice so it is usually not a problem.Comment -

I never place bets at MGM books or Caesers books
