    TVG or HRTV
I don't play the ponies too often but when I do I watch the races on TVG.

The picture is so much clearer and the format is more concise.

Any good cappers on either of these networks?

Richie have you tried to get a job with either one?

The first one to step up and broadcast in HDTV will dominate.

TVG is more widely available because Magna Entertainment Corp., which owns HRTV, has a little feud going with DirecTV. So I only have TVG, and it suits my purposes for the ponies. I do wish I had HRTV as an option, because MEC owns a large numbers of tracks, including some smaller tracks where there are very lucrative wagering opportunities. I agree that the format is superior on TVG, but HRTV is the only way to watch races at tracks owned by Magna.

It's pretty simple, HRTV is run by and for horseplayers, TVG is an entertainment channel. TVG says "We're all about live horse racing" yet probably 20-25% are shown on some delay, and TVG mostly neglects to say that. If HRTV delays a race, even by a few seconds, they ALWAYS tell you. TVG posts tickets from the on-air "talent" encouraging people to follow their faves with their wallet. HRTV occasionally has a single host offer a ticket, but not multiple tickets from multiple hosts every day like TVG.

Top to bottom, HRTV has more qualified people than TVG, IMHO.

I use Youbet online and NJbets online and quality very good and you get every track in the Country.

TV wise TVG and HRTV are both ok but limited in track slections, I have both and do not even watch them.

                      I like PC races better

I can't get HRTV on directTV, but TVG is good for summer and fall racing, but awful for winter racing, where HRTV has all the top winter tracks until the spring.

As for TVG talent, if you follow their Pick 4 and Pick 6 tickets, you'd be broke and homeless. The tickets crash and burn in the first leg about 70 percent of the time and by the second leg, 95 percent of the time.

They should just focus on race analysis, instead of the multi-race exotics that most people can't afford to play.

Something I was taught long ago about 12-13 years ago still holds merit, that is to track the capper you see for the track(s) you are considering wagering upon for at least two full, 100%, meets to get a feel for them before following them . I found out by doing this more than a few will be all over either publics top or second choice (not surprising) as their top selection. If they've been doing a track for a number of seasons, they can provide some insight to barns and their training methods/intentions for the current race. There's one gal in particular whom I won't name but for the last three seasons/meets she's always had the publics first choice at the time of her analysis in her top three. Never missed one. One thing to remember is that when people see a person on screen giving their choices for the race, the sheep will follow blindly.

Slew made a good point in this thread too.

Matt is a funny guy to watch, seems like he'd be a nice guy if you ran into him at the track. But his handicapping is not good. He overhandicaps every race with the early speed angle.

Once in a blue moon, he'll score. Most of the time, his speed horses are finished by the far turn. His longshot picks are always based on "speed" angles and he always picks horses off long layoffs, which is a killer in any handicapping circle.

I have a TVG, YouBet, and a OTB account. TVG does have a lot of delayed races, but their commentary for the most part is insightful. YouBet has a decent rewards package, and their live racing link is strong.
