I understand there's a mess financially with all these different banks, but I thought JP Morgan Chase was one of the ones that were in better standing; having just acquired Washington Mutual also.

NO
Been with them for years and years and use the card heavily.
This is a direct result of the credit crisis, many will be experiencing the same for sure.

i have score that move between high 700's and 800's and have had several limits cut
it's becoming standard. if your score was below 700, they may have closed it entirely.

Establish AAA Credit In 30 Days
To work this plan you need at least $400 to begin. You should borrow this from your friends if necessary. Then go to a bank of your choice and deposit the $400 into a regular passbook savings account.
Wait a few days for the account to be posted and return to the bank to ask for a $400 loan - you offer the passbook as collateral. Since the bank is already holding your $400, you go to another bank open a savings account lending you another $400 and they won't even make a credit check. Then, with your borrowed $400, you go to another bank, open a savings account, return a few days later, borrow $400 from that bank using your passbook as collateral.
Then repeat the process at a third bank with your borrowed $400. Wait a few days to go to a fourth bank where you open this time a CHECKING account. Wait a few days and make a payment on each of the other three loans. A week later, make payments again on the three loans, and continue paying each week until you have almost paid off the balance.
A credit investigation at this point will show you with three active bank loans (which are considered hard to get), a checking account, and a paying history for the three bank loans - with you having paid up in advance. Thus, you have AAA credit in as little as 30 days. From here you go on to apply for loans, credit cards, and other items on credit.

Cash only is the way to go, it feels very nice to pay for something that you know you have the money for, and then not think about it again.

chase is doing it alot and american express is doing it even more. Juniper bank i.e. barclays is also heavily into cutting limits. This not only can put you over the limit which inherently sucks but will kill off your credit score if you are carrying a balance that suddenly becomes close to the limit.

If Obama gets elected this is possible somewhere down the line.
The govt is going to be dying for revenue. They will inflate, not doubt, but if Obama wants re-election he can't have soaring inflation and get elected again, as Jimmy Carter learned.
The religious folks and the NBA, NFL, NCAA will also just have to suck it up and realzie that the country comes before their personal agendas. Thie govt needs the tax money they'll realize from legalized online betting.

About what?
Having a normal credit score with a normal limit?
I'm sure it's higher than the degenerates here, but it's still just a normal credit card.

Opposite thing happened to me.
My gf got me a cc, she is the primary holder. The limit was set at $750, I only use it for groceries, going out for dinner, the odd shirt at the Gap etc...
After 4 months of using it they upped the limit to over 10k.
This seems like a silly idea, especially in these times.
Also, doesn't $750 to over 10k seem a bit drastic?
I guess I can get a big ass t.v. now.

fish has "tons of cards"
fish probably has lots of available credit, and probably lots of debt
and chase may have updated its method of determining credit risk
and fish may have wamu credit in some fashion, and chase is adjusting fish's accounts now that chase owns wamu
don't worry the bailout, i mean rescue bill passed.
