deucey, i will save you the time for waiting for result.. nba will win 85%..
there are 10x as many americans here as canadians, and americans in general, HATE hockey.. they cant stand it.. not all, but the majority.. they will take basketball over hockey anyday..

alirght, you boys trying to make me look bad or what? all canadians will say hockey for sure. and 85% of americans will say nba..
hockey is easier to beat for sure, but if you are asking which they enjoy watching more, i assure you every american will say baskets, with the exception of mabye a couple of folks.

sickler, it's 3-1, not including you.. you dont count.. also, all the american's are not even answering here. it's a gimme for them.
it's like if i made a poll and said, what would you rather eat...
chocolate cake.. OR a carrot..
no one will answer.. just the ones that like carrots more will answer because they are not part of the norm.. hockey is not the answer. americans hate hockey.. figure skating and bowling get more ratings than hockey in the states.

i guarantee you that if they made an ESPN poll from tv and internet and asked every american which they liked better.. i mean americans in Oklahoma, California, Nebraska, Kansas, and all over..
the results would be as follows..
and i am willing to bet my last dollar.
question
Which sport do you americans prefer to watch
hockey or basketball
the results would be
Basketball 96%
Hockey 4%
Do you boys agree?

I disagree Mr.Nicky. I feel that puck would at least grab 20%.

But I think if you did the same poll in the Northest or Great Lakes area hockey would be 50%. Hockey is a Northeastern/Canadian/Great Lakes sport, the newer Sun Belt cities don't watch, people in the Rust Belt do though.

element, i love this topic, i can go on all night discussing hockey vs baskets. i am getting a hard on now.. element, you are from pittsburgh, hockey for sure is #1 there. you had the greatest ever..even better than wayne, in Mario Lemieux... you now have sid the kid.. pitt does great every year.. they love hockey there, maybe even close to the steelers as #1 sport. you dont have basketball..
but for the north east.. maybe just minnesota, and close with detroit, also pistons.. no way cities like boston, or philly or new york have hockey in their top 3 even.. the rest of america hate hockey and dont even understand it..

Boston is a decent hockey area. They have BC and BU there. Phily is a big hockey area, and so is central NY and Buffalo. New York City probably not so much, but I think the Northeast is pretty solid as far as hockey goes.
Right now in Pittsburgh hockey is still second to football, but it is definitely gaining. I guess having the best player in the World for the better part of 20 years doesn't hurt, Mario to Jagr to Sid.

you guys in pittsburgh have been blessed with those players. mario freakin lemieux.. wow.. and now sid the kid..
also, boston is big for hockey, but look who they are competing with.. celts, pats, and redsox, so for sure hockey is 4th.. philly, no way flyers are bigger than sixers or phillies or even eagles.. so 4th there too.. new york, well for sure hockey is 4th there behind giants, knicks and yankees.. and this is north east we are talking here. the rest of usa, forget it. they hate it and dont understand it..
hey element, i've alwys wanted to ask a pittsburgh guy.. i know mario was huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge in pittsburgh in the 80's and 90's.. but is sidney crosby anywhere near the popularity of mario was in those days. i say no by a mile.. is he like huge in pitty

I'm only 21 so I don't remember Lemieux's career that much, I didn't get into hockey until the mid 1990's. But I do remember his comeback in 2001 being the biggest Pittsburgh sports story I have ever seen, aside from the Steelers Super Bowl in 2005.
Right now Crosby and Roethlisberger are the biggest stars in Pittsburgh sports. And the whole Penguins team is the toast of the town, Malkin, Staal, Fleury, are hugely popular. I think Malkin has fukked every good looking chic in Pittsburgh by now. And this is by far the least I have heard about Steelers training camp in my life.

come on danny boy, you are saying that 1 in every 5 americans will prefer hockey over basketball?
danny, if you asked every fan in los angeles if they prefer watching the kings on tv, OR the lakers and kobe.. you think anyone will say Kings? come on man. and this city has a hockey team, that had Gretzky on it too..
now imagine going around asking people in Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Alabama, Utah, Nebraska, and others??
omg, you'd be lucky if 1 in 30 said hockey is better than baskets..
if you went to canada and asked them this, 1 in 30 will say baskets.. but not the USA danny boy..
come on danny, admit 1 in 5 is way off.

Ask that question to fan of the Blue Jackets for example Mr.Nicky. Believe it or not the U.S. people do like pucks, otherwise there wouldn't be that mean teams in U.S. cities.

danny boy, they were interviewing this dallas stars player mike ribiero, who is a star for Dallas.. he said that when anyone on the team walks downtown dallas, including marty turco, brendan morrow, and others, no one ever ever ever recognizes them..
he said the only person that any fans recognize is Mike Modano.. what does that tell you? i'll tell you what it means.. it's because it's Texas, and in Texas, no one cares about hockey.. they got the Mavs, the Cowboys.. they could care less about hockey in hot texas
