#110I'm shocked at how active the Panthers have been but they've made some good moves and may just be able to sneak into the playoffs. My main concern with them is their goaltending now that Vokoun is gone.Comment -

#111Ya that scumbag thought we were going to pay him more money... He didnt do anything down here... We were last place before he got here and last place with him here.... Vokoun also blew so many games in the shootout in the last 2 years it makes me sick to my stomach... I like the move bringing in Theodore. Even though Theodore is just a 1-2 year plan till we bring up the stud they have in the minors.
I wont be in shock if we make the playoffs and Booth and Weiss have a breakout year.Comment -

#121I thought Richards would be a Flyer for his career. This trade absolutely shocked me... Dumping Carter didn't come as a big surprise however. That guy is a cream puff.Comment -

#125yet you sure came running into this thread to offer up that comment, didn't you? weird that you never heard of a guy you PM'ed multiple times about not making this bet when I bugged you there.
(it's ok, in the end, we both know that you know you'll be wrong-hence why you never took the measly points wager)

And you messaged me, I replied twice. You have an issue with exaggeration. Probably some kind of inferiority complex.

#135Not going to make the playoffs this year... Takes a lot more than great goaltending to make it... And in todays NHL, investing a lot into a netminder hurts when it comes to icing a competitive team.Comment -

#138"That had to make coach Peter Laviolette pleased. Laviolette instituted a “Dry Island,” the name of a pledge in which he asked his players to stop drinking for a month. Richards and Carter repeatedly declined to take part in the pledge over the past two years—and were traded the same day."
I could see this conversation happening -
Richie: Lavvy is on me about this Dry Island shit again
Carter: I know me too **** that I'm not doing it we carry this ******* team. Wtf are they gonna do trade us both?
Richie: Same here. **** that they would never do it.

#140Flyers definitely are still one of the better teams in the East
Their FW depth has taken a little bit of a hit but it is still a strong point on the team. Probably top 5 in the East still.
In my mind, they upgraded their top line replacing Leino with Jagr. Couturier will most likely not be on the roster for opening night, but Brayden Schenn is ready. That kid is really one of the top prospects in hockey, if not the top. He won't put up big numbers as he probably wont even get PP2 time during much of the year but he will be a solid contributor at ES, giving some of the tough minutes. I could also see him slotting into PK2 time. They improved by adding Talbot (although a bit overpaid) as he's one of the best 4th liners out there.
They invited Nylander to camp, but I don't think he'll stick; these are my projected lines:
Hartnell-Briere-Jagr
JVR-Giroux-Voracek
Read-Schenn-Simmonds
Talbot-Holmstrom-Nodl
Their D is still one of the best corps in the league. Pronger will be a big part of it but not as much as in the past (still their #1, but will likely miss a bit of time at the start of the year). Ice time was slowly passed down to Carle, Coburn, and Meszaros. This really fits in with their long term goals of getting younger, which is one of the driving forces for the Richards/Carter deals. Timonen wil be extremely solid as always.
Bryzgalov is overpaid and overrated. He is an average starting goalie in the league. That puts him around top 15, which is decent and really all you need from a goalie, but they paid him like he's top 3. Big overpayment but definitely a big upgrade at the same time.
Overall, I think 2011-2012 Flyers will be more balanced, slightly slighty better than last years version. They need some of their additions to be able to eat some of the tougher minutes that Richards was. Talbot probably slides into PK1, hopefully for them Simmonds can play PK2. JVR should progress (but not as much as everyone thinks, he will never be at the level of, say, a Bobby Ryan) 25-30 would be reasonable and quite good from James. Giroux will be a force and needs to be played power on power with the other team's best lines in my opinion.Comment
