Anybody dealing with the disaster in Mississippi?
    How we holding up

Leaking: This homeowner sealed off the driveway to their house but water has crept in over the back of the makeshift levee - not surprising when the Mississippi River's height has swollen to 56.3 feet - a record high

Built up: This homeowner has turned their house into an island in the 300 acres of flooded farmland around the Mississippi River

No room with a view: The walls of the levee are almost the same height as the roof of the house

                Wow. That's unreal.

Feel really bad for those folks down there. I'll say this, if you're a dirt contractor in this area, you made a lot of money these past few weeks.

Flood insurance would have been 300.00, I bet you many do not have it.

I bet most of the nicer houses do. If you're remotely in a flood plain, most banks will require it for financing.

I sure hope they do. Either way, terrible tragedy.

Why isn't the government setting up FEMA trailers and handing out free gift cards??

You know why...same reason why we didn't hear people in the same State bitching and moaning due to the lack of responsiveness by the US Gov't during Katrina.

By the way, I was way off with that flood ins. figure. In this area in ranges 3.5 to 5k a year...a big nut if you have to do it year after year.

Just 51 of the 560 homes in Krotz Springs are covered by federal flood insurance policies, according to FEMA statistics.
About 60 percent of the homes are behind the town’s towering ring levee and are in no danger of flooding, barring a breach in the levee. But about 240 homes sit outside the levee and have a significantly higher flood risk.
About 25 miles downriver in Butte LaRose, where up to 10 feet of flooding had been predicted by the Army Corps of Engineers when the spillway opened Saturday, about 80 percent of the homes are not covered by flood insurance.

                            Devastating

I cannot believe how much people spent to try and protect houses

                            Water is so destructive
