I guess that Canadians can't compete with us in any other sports than, right?

You made the statement, so it fits your sick logic.

Well...maybe Winter Olympics sports. I'll give them that.

I think many Canadians off of SBR would disagree. Nice people up there... they play their role well.

I beg to differ. I hold my own. The more you follow a sport the better capper you on. It's proven.

Anyone can be good at capping anything. People who grew up on a sport will have a deeper interest in it most of the time and that might translate to better betting in certain situations. But if you put the effort in, you can come close to levelling or surpassing the playing field quite quickly.

I do agree with Canucker though - international gamblers seem to do better overall. That may be because they rely heavier on stats, etc rather than just what ESPN is spitting out. Not sure.

Shari stick to picking bananas, women cannot cape at all

International Cappers are good at soccer and other off sports, they are not good at usa sports

I agree. I can neither cape nor cap. Still just flipping a coin and hoping I do ok.

Love how you call it "off sports". Sports that are bet on more heavily than US ones. More volume, more cash. Yet they're off.

And if you think international cappers aren't good at US sports, you're going to be in for a rude awakening when you finally manage to worm your way into BetFair. Best of luck!!

This thread is pretty dumb. It's not a USA/Canada thing, it's a who is the best at any sport thing. There are idiots on both sides, and experts on both sides of the border.

Believe it or not the NHL forum has had good cappers from all around this year. Obviously I consider myself one of the best and being from Canada I fit the JJ Gold mold But arguably the "top ten" cappers on here includes people from: Canada, US, Russia, and other parts of Europe.

Canadians definitely know the players, rules and teams the best of any nation as a whole for sure but in terms of actual hockey handicapping it's pretty even across the world. You just gotta put your work in, watch a shit-load of hockey and you will be as good as anyone else regardless of where you live.

Like DennisGreen said, it has nothing to do with where you live, it's all about doing your homework. Canadians do not pass down the hockey-handicapping gene or anything like that. I know a ton of Canadians who know baseball inside-out and can cap with anyone in the USA...just sayin - so let's all hug and drink some Canadian, eat some apple pie and watch the Hawks get killed by the Canucks (ok it's 3-1 hawks as I finish this....)....

Hmmm...yes but maybe it's worth noting that not every Canadian played hockey. This is/was a large misconception by many non-Canadians. Basketball and Baseball (and Soccer - not my fave) are also very big in Canada in terms of numbers of players playing the game. Baseball is really picking up in Canada, especially in BC, somewhat in Ontario and Quebec and Alberta to a lesser extent. I just don't think stereotyping Canadians as all being hockey obsessed works all that well these days. People have more access to sports, stats, all the history and can learn anything they have the drive to understand. When I was a kid, I knew hockey and the players from the trading cards and TV, the odd newspaper article and that was about it. Things are different now. However, when it comes to understanding the conditions under wish someone has to play a game, like the travel, weather, injuries, and any other assortment of factors, having played the game at a high level will give you the edge in handicapping. I played baseball at a high level and it definitely gives me the advantage over someone who hasn't when I can look at a match-up and make a reasonable call about how a team might be feeling or even a particular player and how they might fare given any number of criteria. But the same thing can be said of anyone who's played at a decent level - regardless of the sport. Trying not to generalize, but MY experience is that people who have NOT played ANY sport at any high-ish level (College/Semi-pro/Pro) can not truly understand some of the factors that affect play. Other than that, I think that in general, handicapping skill is how you approach it, being able to see trends and the big picture, with a dash of luck .
