Saw a story on the news the other day about a guy that had his laptop stolen but got it back because of online backup storage. Apparently, he had his laptop set to automatically backup online every night. He checked his online storage site and found a video of the thief dancing. The thief had used the webcam on the laptop to make the video. The owner of the laptop uploaded the video to YouTube, the thief was so embarrassed by the video he turned the laptop in to police and asked that the video be removed. The guy got his laptop back but the video is still up. BUSTED!

These other devices like the Mac one can be stolen or of course break

No anything I need to backup I use memory sticks. I put all very important documents on 2 memory sticks in case something happens to 1. I always have at least 2 copies. If something happens to 1 copy I put it on another.

Booner the lure to online backup is that you do not have to worry about if you lose your external back up devices

Did not realize there was difference between online backup and online storage
Backup is automated and just stores all your data files, if you delete something on your hard drive it also deletes on backup
Online storage are files from your pc that you store on a sever as long as you like, more like a fukkin safe

Yeah, the moves of a dumb ass idiot. Nice thing about laptops is now you can equip them with GPS so when some douche bag steals your computer, you can track it right to where the fuk'er lives or where he fenced it at!

Lots of legit sites, even banks offer it now
Why would anyone pay for online backup?
Just buy two external 1TB hard drives, install free backup software, set it to back up once a week or more if you're saving that much data, and keep one at home and the other in an offsite location in case of fire or theft. Simple as that.

This seems like the way to go if you are truly worried about losing your data... Seems silly to pay a recurring fee as cheap as external hard drives are now....
