The NHL is the hardest sport to wager on if you plan on doing it daily. There is never a rhyme or reason to why one team wins. Trends do not matter in hockey, except for maybe a streaking total. What I keep telling Roddy is, that he should stay away from totals. He never wins, poor guy. He is ok with picking dogs, but thats about it. And so far, he hasnt picked one total yet. Please, no one tail his totals.

I am fairly new to this, but kind of agree. Emotion and, lets face it, luck play such a big part in hockey it is hard to predict. I do also think that putting in work researching the particulars of each game, injuries, starting goalies, style of play vs style of play, home vs away, back to back/lack of rest overall and emotional factors you can find some great values. One thing you can't get from just looking at wins/loss trends is figuring out which team is actually playing better than their record and which is not playing as well as their record, when you find that there is usually value to bet on or against the team as most people wil be over or under raiting that team. So, basically I agree it is harder to cap based on just trends/stats but with a little extra work you can be profitable.
