Sounds like a bad idea to have anymore than 10-15% of the BR on anything.

I'm on this as well. Can't see the heat not winning this game by less than 10.

Not a lot of sense in having a "Bankroll" if you are going to risk 75% of it.

I'm guessing he went the 75% of bankroll bet often enough to have learned this isn't the game for him!

Technically correct but playing the long game will just keep you in the game not doing anything worth remembering.

Nah. If you put a 100.00 in a horse race with one of your best friends, and get back 11,000.00 , you remember it.

And if you keep track from year to year of your profits or losses, you remember those as well.

Nothing more rewarding than a ledger with more pluses long term than not from sport to sport.

I have assumed and continue to assume that you know what I am talking about.

Different type of satisfaction looking back at how you can stay in the game and make a small profit most years.

I used to play for thrills many years ago. And get why thats why many people gamble. But am glad I can get more enjoyment out of just beating the game consistently now.

                                              1) If you're beating the modern mkt consistently, props to you!
                                              2) Serious sports-gaming can be boring TO OTHERS. Best player is analyzing meticulously.
                                              3) You mention the goal of "small profit most years." Most people tune this out, b/c they don't get excited by a +4% ROI year. Without realizing how difficult that is to achieve.

Opti, got a follow-up question for you:

*Care to opine on the Gambling culture in Australia?

...Australian poker champ Joe Hachem seemed to indicate that Aussies would go mental about gaming.
...I know the Aussies follow their NRL and AFL closely.
...How serious is the gaming culture in Australia? I seem to recall hearing that there are betting booths at the Australian Open. IE, you can bet on the matches as if you're attending a day at the horse-races.
...For one season I signed up for one of those AFL newsletters. I know the guy studied it seriously.

Different type of satisfaction looking back at how you can stay in the game and make a small profit most years.

I used to play for thrills many years ago. And get why thats why many people gamble. But am glad I can get more enjoyment out of just beating the game consistently now.
Opti, I think you nailed it.

All my life it's been socially acceptable to gamble, socially. So yeah I do think we tend to gamble on anything more than most countries given the chance. India might be more than us.

As far as access to booths at stadiums and stuff like that. Surprisingly USA is much looser with that sort of thing. Booths are only in over 18 bar areas where they have them at all. In fact USA is super loose with regulation compared to long term established places like UK and here. We have way more restrictive rules in general. Particularly about encouraging people to start gambling with bonuses or bigger limits for losers.

If you like to gamble, I'd say USA is probably the best place to be nowadays.
                                                      .

OK, thanks for the reply, Opti. I have one saying about US gaming operators:
*They want to put the vacuum-cleaner to your wallet. They love Squares. They want to leave you with just enough $$ to come back next time.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

So if his bankroll was $100 he bet $75 on a play?

Yes pretty dumb to not put the whole $100 on it.

And if you keep track from year to year of your profits or losses, you remember those as well.
