Ummm, do you follow college football? At all?

Golden is considered by just about everyone to be a great young head coach.

He took a program that was 0-11 with virtually zero talent----and turned it into a MAC champion and a bowl game against UCLA last year.

And before you make fun of the MAC------there are quite a few coaches who began their careers there------Nick Saban and Urban Meyer began their careers in the same conference.

Reminds me of the Dooley hire, coach from a non BCS conference with a losing record for his career but had virtually nothing to work with and brought programs success who have struggled for years. Golden was thought to be a candidate to replace Joe Pa at Penn State when the time came but who knows when that would ever be at his rate.

As a Temple fan I'm sad to see him go but happy to see him get a shot at a bigger school.

Don't like the choice. Wanted Trestman. But hopefully he can be another Meyer like the guy up there said. The Mac is always a good building ground for coaches.

Obviously a lot of you do not follow college football very closely. If you did, you would see that this was an excellent hire. This guy knows how to win. His Temple team went 8-4 this season, including a win over BCS Fiesta Bowl bound UConn. Last year his team finished at 9-4. Five years ago, when he got the job, his team finished 1-11, after an 0-12 season under Bobby Wallace. The difference between Golden and Shannon is tht Golden knows talent, and knows how to win.

I don't think Al Gore invented the internet yet for the last two!

I think it's a great hire. Penn State dropped the ball on this one. When these big colleges fire coaches they can't break the bank paying two big time coaches at the same time.

I know the fans of the U don't want to hear this, but there are a lot of things that make this not a great job. Facilities, distance from campus to where they play, attendance...

It's NOT a destination job anymore...

I agree with Doc. Miami is not the "top" job it once was. Until they get rid of that dingbat president, it will be difficult to be a top tier position.

Hiring Golden was a good move in my opinion. As BigDaddy posted, he took over one of the sorriest football programs in the country and went 27-34 in five seasons. Anyone who doesn't see the turn around he made at Temple is just simply out-of-touch with college football.

Sorry to chime in here bigdaddy, but you claim a lot of SBR posters don't follow college football very closely, but you claimed Temple to go 8-4 this season, when they actually finished 6-6 and didn't get a Bowl game.

Golden is a great hire for the U. He's got a good football mind and will have a higher caliber of athletes to work with.

                                      6-6 ??
Actually you are mistaken, BigDaddy was correct...
Temple (according to those that keep
actual records, ESPN) is indeed 8-4 this season.

This shows how little some of you guys know about college football.

Golden was an assistant at UVA---and he was considered to be one of the very best recruiters in college football-----in fact, Rivals gave him their "Recruiter of the Year" award while he was there.

With Miami's talent base---Golden is going to clean up.

Sorry to chime in here bigdaddy, but you claim a lot of SBR posters don't follow college football very closely, but you claimed Temple to go 8-4 this season, when they actually finished 6-6 and didn't get a Bowl game.
Regul8er----you----you need to learn how to use either Yahoo or ESPN.

Temple finished 8-4 and beat the Big East Champs this year.

Ohhh, I see. Taking a program that was 0-11 and winning a conference championship doesn't mean dick---we should just put value in your opinion that Golden isn't a good "in game coach".

                                                    Makes sense.

Golden was an assistant at UVA---and he was considered to be one of the very best recruiters in college football-----in fact, Rivals gave him their "Recruiter of the Year" award while he was there.

With Miami's talent base---Golden is going to clean up.
i remember him, UVA truly misses him and just haven't recruited the same talent level since the guy left.
