ESPN uses 'total' in describing the Celtics-Bobcats game
"This was the lowest total in the NBA this season"

Total? Will ESPN start being more open about GAMBLING on basketball?

I personally wouldn't mind seeing a (-8) thrown in the ticker before tonight's Spurs-Blazers game. Need more of this on ESPN.

That's how games here are televised for Aussie sports. I'd hate to be a recovering gambling addict in this country - they're constantly showing you the live odds on games/matches and half the games are sponsored by books so you're bombarded with it. It's great though when one of the announcers who has actually played the sport recently makes a comment on the odds. I've almost set my fingers on fire trying to call a bet in after one of their comments during a game.

It was a low scoring game so they mentioned "This was the lowest total in the NBA this season."

I don't think they were referring to the lowest total line set for the season...that would be different.

i think espn has thrown out a lot of refrences. could've sworn one game they talked about how a team was 2 touchdown underdogs and they're winning straight up. now bill simmons has a running column about just making nfl picks and talking about how bad the colts beat was on thursday

Well ESPN certainly hasn't shied away from the gambling aspect of sports in recent year, They employ Chad Millman solely to cover sports betting.

                  It could have been worded:

"This was the lowest combined score in the NBA this season"

perhaps they felt that total was just a tighter wording of the line.

ESPN throws out the spreads and totals more often when talking about NFL. Sometimes during the telecast they will mention it. I would say more than half those guys bet on games too with the knowledge and stats they have access to

ESPN and NFL have to stop pussyfooting around the lines, they are what drives the damn sport afterall

I think the only ones who really know what they are doing are Michaels and Terico... Michaels is by far the best at bring up odds in his own way...

Those comments don't necessarily have anything to do with gambling. In fact, they probably weren't referring to gambling at all.
