How do you identify a song?

here's another hint:

-right at 0:35 - 0:37, that little melody sounds like the beginning of the chorus of the song.

-it's a pop song and i believe it's sung by a girl

this sucks, i found a fukking list of the top 1044 songs from the 80s now i have to type each one of them in youtube until i recognize the tune!

this isn't even worth it, but hopefully i'll rediscover some nice music. 80s music was the best by far.

Not true. The app I have which is called Midomi also attempts to recognize the song when you sing or hum a portion of the song.

On their website they even have a place to sing to the website and let it recognize the song. I have never tried that though.

i didn't even hear the song, that's what makes it worse. i just heard those TWO SECONDS of melody from the elvis costello song, and it reminded me of that song I used to hear when I was younger.

And these are good guesses, but re-read the clues.

- It's not a cool song either, it's a girly pop song, along the lines of 'girls just wanna have fun'

I was totally wrong, it was You Can't Hurry Love by Diana Ross and the Supremes. i can't believe i thought it was 80s, it was 1966! thanks for all the help guys!
