good for him. i feared they would give jeter a blank check. fukk him. he just got 189 mill and his skills are greatly diminished. let him go somewhere else if he wants. to say the yankees throw money around is an understatement. but for the most part the money they throw around is warranted. cc-tex in recent yrs to name a few. other teams wish they had that money. and if they did they would too. but those are prime of there career players. jeter is obviously not. if 45 mill for three isnt enough then beat it derek.

#4this is just part of the negotiations...
Yanks are probably willing to go four years, but not five or six like Derek wants.
Yanks probably willing to go close to $20 mil a year, but not $25 mil a year.
Would expect this to wind up at four years and close to $80 mil when it's all said and done.
Jeter isn't going anywhere, at least not yet.

#9Yankees would rather overpay for Cliff Lee.
Lee is trying to get a 7 year deal for 140 million.
By LENNY NESLIN
Lenny's YankeesThe thin market for Aces this off-season makes Cliff Lee look like a God. Here are the facts:
* His regular season ERA for the Rangers last year was 3.98 in 15 starts — and that’s not a product of the hitter-friendly Ballpark in Arlington.
* He’s won exactly one Cy Young Award with a career ERA of 3.85. Two-and-a-half regular great regular seasons makes you a top five paid pitcher in the game?
* He’s had some excellent starts in the postseason, but doesn’t have any ring to show for them. He didn’t make it through the fifth inning in Game 5 against the weak-hitting Giants this past World Series and took the loss in Game 7. He was also lucky to face A.J. Burnett in Game 5 of the ‘09 World Series, as he won despite allowing five earned.
Click here for more reasons why Cliff Lee is not worth close to $24 million a season.Comment -

#10Oh, I agree 100%.
The Yankees are in a bit of a difficult spot here. Jeter is worth much more to the Yanks than he is to anyone else. The Yanks know this. Jeter knows this. So, this whole thing is a mating dance. Jeter, in all likelyhood winds back up with the Yanks...
Jeter is, justifibly to some extent, jealous over the contract the Yanks gave ARod last time around. It was, by any measure, a horrible deal for the Yanks (and a great deal for ARod). But Jeter is thinking that, because of his history, deserves a comparable deal to ARod's...and that's just not going to happen.Comment -

#14Jeter will end up getting what he wants with the Yankees. Jeter is the face of the Yankees, the current day Mantle or DiMaggio. The guy is close to 3k hits and will easily be a 1st ballot HOF'er.
If anyone here seriously doubts the Yankees won't give in then I think you're wrong on this one. At this point in his career they're not paying him purely for production, but who he is and what he means to the organization.Comment -

#23this really has nothing to do with this but i have probably gone on 20 road trips to see the yankees play in other cities. and about half of them i have stayed in the yankees team hotel. seen the team plenty of times get back to the hotel after a game and walk right thru the lobby. jeter is a fukkin prick. always with a smug fukkin look on his face. little kids in the lobby asking for autographs. just so u know not me asking for autographs. could care less about an autograph. they all stop. very polite. jeter blows by everybody. no acknowlegment, like the kids are garbage. he looks like a real fukkin scumbag.Comment -

#31Jeter is just bluffing. He will take any offer to stay with the Yankees or else he'll just stay without a team like Jermaine Dye did. Never good to not play a season because the money is not good enough.
Hell, Jeter can only do the right thing and sign with the Boston Red Sox to stick it to them if there was a chance.Comment -
