Scenario A
You start with $100. You have to win 5 bets in a row. If you do, you win $2435. If you get -105 on every line instead of -110, you win $2736. You can take your time and bet only when you feel like it. There is no time limit. If you lose any of the 5 bets, you end up down $100. No more and no less. Any time you feel like making a bet that is worthy of this parlay, you can shop around any of the books and bet the best number available. If, after winning the first 4, you want to lock in a $1,000 profit, then your last bet will determine whether you walk away with $1,000 or $1,435. With -105, you walk away up $1,000 or $1,689, if you win the last leg. Not a bad ending either way.
Scenario B
You start with $100. You have to win 5 bets in a row. If you do, you win $2,000. You can take your time and bet only when you feel like it, but you can only bet at this one book that you set up your open parlay with. If you lose one of the bets, you end up down $100, just like in scenario A. If you win the first 4 bets and want to lock in $1,000 profit, you can't. You can hedge bet against the last leg by paying vig and locking up $900 profit. But if you lock up the $900 profit, then it makes no difference what happens on the last leg. You win $900 whether the open parlay wins or whether your hedge bet wins.
This is EXACTLY what you are doing when you bet an open parlay. You are saying that you prefer scenario B over scenario A.Comment -
