Maine Expected to Legalize Sports Betting
But the tribal casinos will have sole control of online and app betting...
The Maine Senate approved bill LD 585 to legalize retail and mobile sports betting with a 23-11 vote Tuesday evening, and Governor Janet Mills is expected to sign off on the bill.
Under the bill, The Wabanaki Nations, consisting of the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Micmac, and Houlton Band of Maliseet, will control the mobile sports betting market. In-person betting will be allowed at Maine’s two casinos in Oxford and Bangor.
Maine gets a BestPlaces Cost of Living score of 97, which means the total cost of housing, food, childcare, transportation, healthcare, taxes, and other necessities is 3.0% lower than the U.S. average and 0.0% lower than the average for Maine.
