Shit is insane there. Watching live shots is surreal, can't imagine being there. People sitting on top of trucks just waiting, and some guy in the water holding onto a sign as you can see the water rising by the second for both. Saved, but damn. Best of luck fellas.

Guy drove around for near three hours trying to find a way to help. Crazy story. Wife smiled when asked if he would have rather went out sitting at home, or trying to help people. Obviously knowing that he went out doing what he loved to do. Texas is really showing what America is about.

The police chief tried to say something like this but totally botched it. He said something like... "would you rather report to work so that you can help people or be asleep in your bed"?

I'm thinking, I'd rather be alive at work or alive asleep in my bed. No one wants to be dead trying to report to work. Sgt Steve Perez 61st birthday is tomorrow. Heartbreaking.

Yeah, I listened to it live and basically botched it too. Looking back at what I wrote. It definitely could have been much better. Basically the guy wanted to help people, period. The way the chief put it was odd, but hard to come up with words on the spot.

All that matters is he was a man who wanted to help. Thought he could, and kept trying. Thoughts to his family.

to whoever said some shit about posting videos of saving people, the last thing these people wanted to be was filmed. You do something because it's the right thing to do, not because you want some type of half-ass credit for it. Our iphones were all locked away in the center console, just as they are when we go fishing....

we were looking to help, not to toot our own f'n horns.....

(tho we can do that if we are so inclined....)

but the absolute last thing one is thinking is, "oh, hey, wait a minute, get your Iphone out and film this rescue"....

Just when things looked like it was over, things are looking pretty dire by me. A levee must have broke in the last hour (I believe off Diary Ashford and Eldridge). The sun is out, it is beautiful outside with cool breeze, people were coming out with their kids but all of a sudden water started coming in this entire area at a rapid rate. I had to wade in waste high water that I could walk in this morning to streets that are getting overwhelmed with water. Raw sewage and sludge with oil and gas on top. Folks are getting water in their homes right now even though it's not raining. My property pools but never floods. I'm getting flooding on the front part of my yard. I still have time but a lot of homes are about to get flooded shortly. Core of engineers are doing discharges and it is obviously flooding the entire area. Water is streaming down some streets like rapids. It's about to get dark and folks are getting frightened. Many of them are going to be homeless in a few hours. I could really use a boat right now.

sun is out.... the worst is behind us; rebuilding/repairing will take months.....

i'm done with high water rescue; got two people in the hospital now to help out; one almost died in a sky-diving accident the day before this shit hit.... the other was crushed by a "floating vehicle" that pinched him in between a brick wall and the rear quarter panel....

minimal damage to address on the homefront and at the ranch.... but there are more first responders/rednecks in boats than there are people in need of rescue at this point....

gonna fry some fish for the family tonight and count our blessings that we didn't flood like so many others.....

Sadly, first rule of thumb in EMS and first responder situations is you're no good to anyone else dead. Nobody's safety is more important than yours. You first, partner second, everyone else after.

I hate when I hear stories of individuals performing "heroic" acts and dying because in general, it wasn't needed. Even if he made it to work his impact likely would have been minimal, in the big picture.

But I get it, we're men and we have an innate sense to respond when conditions are extreme. I've been through two F-5's and have seen the same type of response 100's of times. Good people out helping minutes after the tornado destroyed a neighborhood, the smell of natural gas, water damming up in the streets due to trees blocking roads, live electrical wires lying right next to the water, tornado sirens still blaring as another tornado is forming.

And there are dozens and dozens of people out there doing what they can. I admire everyone of them, they're better people than I

thanks for the kind words, tho it was really a no-brainer.... went to bed last night at 10:30, woke up 15 minutes ago.... longest I've slept in one session in years.....

guess ol JMobile has a point... my back hurts like shit, and I feel beat the fuk up.... have bruises up and down both f'n legs, several on my back, that I have no idea how they got there.... adrenalin is a helluva thing I guess....

about to head out to the hospital to visit my friend who fell 100 feet to the ground in a bungled ski-diving accident; had to be brought back to life during his life-flight to the hospital, and now has a "near death" experience to talk about, complete with being reunited with his dad (previously passed), who was telling him to "let go" and come on across......

the dude is an athiest (at least was), and now he's having to deal with the question of "was that real", or just his brain preparing him for death..... crazy shit.

be safe out there if you're around htown, as flooding is still happening in limited areas.....

as far as current weather conditions are concerned, I'll let Willie handle it:
