I think if you are a good gambler and have a ton of money you can tell anyone you gamble sports.. It's like this - "yeah I'm a professional sports gambler and I've been doing it for years and years.. Look at my big house and new car." That's usually socially acceptable...

If you are shitty gambler and broke best to keep it under wraps at all times... My take..
