A coach's assistant at a Montgomery County (web | news) School is at the center of a sex scandal. The female volunteer helped out with the basketball team at Seneca Valley High School in Germantown.
Police say their case began when the 15-year-old boy's parents found sexually explicit text messages on his phone from the female assistant basketball coach. The parents called the school, the school called police, and now a 24-year-old woman is facing charges.
Police say Jennifer Glad, a volunteer assistant boys' varsity basketball coach at Seneca Valley High School, became sexually involved with the 15-year-old male student.
"These occurred in her car in parking lots in the Germantown area," stated Capt. Paul Starks with the Montgomery County Police.
On at least four occasions during the month of December, police say Glad and the 15-year-old boy had sex in her car. According to police, at least one of the encounters took place in the parking lot of Roberto Clemente Middle School, which is just down the road from the high school.
Police say it was a consensual relationship. Now, Glad is facing four counts of sexual abuse of a minor and four counts of a third-degree sexual offense.
"I am totally in shock. Totally! They walk their dog all the time," said neighbor Danita Hill, who is also a parent.
Danita Hill's daughter attends Seneca High and lives on the same block as Jennifer Glad.
She said, "I really like Seneca. It is a really good school so I just hope it isn't labeled by this negativity."
Neighbors say Glad lives with her parents and young sisters. No one was at home to comment.
"That's not good," said Seneca student Blair Barnes. "That's really not good."
As students attended basketball games Friday night several parents outside said they had not heard about the alleged crimes.
Parent Dan Carroll said, "I really don't know how to react here. I really don't know what is going on."
"It is a good school and my kids go to school here. I don't like it to happen to any child here," said one parent.
The school system officials said they called parents Friday evening and said Jennifer Glad is no longer coaching.
A late check of court records reveal she posted a $25,000 bond and is out of jail. Records indicate the boy's mother has filed a restraining order against her.
