#37Can anyone confirm having had a similar experience in which the sports book did indeed refer you to a collection agency in the United States and what happened?
I've had a similar experience over at Bodog. I deposited $500 using a credit card (illegal on their end to begin with after July 2006 as I understand), made roughly 1200 in the course of the evening and then moved to withdraw. I was told that someone else had attempted to use my information and that the account was frozen. As part of the freezing, they refunded my initial deposit to the credit card for "security" purposes. They then declined to pay the $1200, stating i didn't actually deposit money, so i can't collect. Finally, they sent me an email a few weeks later informing me of my "negative balance" of $500, stemming from the refund (the $1200 has disappeared at this point) and threatening to refer the balance to third party collection agency.
Long-story short: what exactly can they do to me here in the States, specifically, to my credit?
they threaten with the "credit report" situation, and what not. may even threaten legal action. bottom line is that they have no grounds to collect the debt. ignore them. better yet, when the collection agency calls you, threaten to report them to the DOJ for trying to collect on illegal gambling debt. claim you never did the transaction. do not pay them. they cannot do a thing to you.Comment -

#39Pokerstars will send a collection agency after you. I had a e-check returned for wrong account number. Same number used many times. Had 5 times the amount of check in my account yet they never took it out of there. Instead turned it over to collection agency. Sent (no joke over 100 )e-mails to pokerstars showing same bank number was used before and after so called check. They would never answer and said once it is turned over to collections there is nothing they can do. Biggest crap I ever saw. Had to leave money in there. Worst case of customer service and rules I ever saw. Told collection agency to go **** themselves. Never showed up in any credit report.Comment -

#40Sportsbook have no course of action to collect the funds from you if you were to cancel a check, not pay them, charge back, and etc. They have no grounds to file any charges since it's illegal for a bank to allow or fund a Sportsbook. If they threaten to turn a so called negative balance over to a collection agency then by all means let them do so. Most of the time its a scare tactic. If they do go through with the collection agency then they can't do a thing as well. If they call tell them you did not authorize any such transaction and you have no recollection of the account or charge for whatever Sportsbook. If they continue to hound or bother you, then threaten to turn them over to the legal authorities for a collection agency trying to collect on a so called gambling debt. Offshore books have no recourse to collect payment if one were to screw them over. Just the same goes for us as we have no recourse of action if a book were to screw the player as well. You have to use good judgment and quality books to build the trust between the player and the book to keep both transactions going both ways. There is nothing one can do if one or the other were to try and screw the other over. However, there is one advantage to the player though. If a book were to offer credit card payments and the book chose not to pay for whatever reason, then the player can choose to do a charge back on the credit card and hope they win the case or investigation the bank does. Any other method and you are pretty much screwed if the book is not going to pay you.Comment -

#43Glad I found this old thread! So I logged in my account at Bovada today and noticed that I had a balance of $-42.67. What happened is I bet the RB for Toledo to have over 125.5 yds rushing in the bowl game against Air Force the other day. They graded it a win (I assume b/c ESPN had him at 128 right after the game, but I checked today and it was 108). I donked off all my other cash (which wasn't much) after they graded it incorrectly. I login today and I find that I'm in the negative for the amount of the incorrectly graded bet. Should I pay it?Comment -

You'd be whinging if they decided not to pay you wouldn't you?
Do unto others as you'd have them do to you.
How much do you value your account with them?
That's not much money to pay to maintain an account with a good bookie.
Not that I'd ever call them that but unlike US citizens I fortunately can play at all the best sites.Comment -

I have no recollection of ever exiting a bad book within only a week of them going down or having ever said that. Please provide the evidence to back up your claim.
I exited WSEX long before they got into the extreme slow pay category.
I exited Sports Alive months before they closed down. Unfortunately their system only allowed round dollar withdrawals so wouldn't let me withdraw my entire balance so I ended up losing 4 cents. That's all I've ever lost due to a bookie closure.
And I've also exited all books serving US customers ahead of them being put out of action or having their funds confiscated by Uncle Sam.
But what is the relevance of all this to the topic of this thread?Last edited by Hareeba!; 12-29-11, 09:12 PM.Comment -

#53I had a friend who owed money to a Costa Rican book back in 2006. He laughed it off as "there stupid mistake". I told him he better pay those guys are he could be asking for trouble. Fast forward to 2010 and my friend took his gal on a vacation to no other than Costa Rica. Once he arrived he felt he was being followed. Two days later he was approached by two overweight but average looking guys. In a very thick accent they informed him that he owed $12.38. He gave the guy a $20 and told them to keep the change. #57Why not?The most of them are thiefs,friend..Especially when you play at casino,or win a bet by a scored goal after the next 5 sec you placed the bet but they cancel the bet
Or when you win a lot of money but they close the account saying for severals accounts without evidence. Once they make a mistake for a small amount, must be so idiot to return the money back?Comment -
