NFL v. CFP is brutal backroom politics:
But then a new twist came from the NFL just weeks later. The NFL had reportedly requested the CFP adjust its schedule for the first round, to place two games on Friday and two games on Saturday, instead of one Friday and three Saturday. The league traditionally takes advantage of every Saturday it can outside of those protected by the 1961 Sports Broadcasting Act, and did not wish to compete head-to-head with college football. But the CFP found the idea of games on a Friday afternoon undesirable, and declined to adjust its schedule. In response, the league doubled down. Fearing the optics of losing a ratings battle to the CFP, the league scheduled two marquee games not on NFL Network as in years past, but national broadcast television (NBC and Fox). Combined with the NFL’s decision to play on Christmas (a day traditionally marked by coverage of the NBA on ESPN), the league had significantly devalued two of ESPN’s flagship events.

Garbage product that has gotten progressively worse since Adam Silver became commissioner.
David Stern took the NBA to great heights and Silver has completely ruined it.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver spoke Tuesday in Las Vegas ahead of the NBA Cup championship on analytics and the recent increase in 3-point volume.
“It’s not unique to the NBA, where analytics start to be too controlling and create situations where players are doing seemingly unnatural things because they’re being directed to do something that is a more efficient shot,” Silver said. “And part of what we’re focusing on, too, is that what makes these players so incredible is the joy they bring to playing the game and the freestyle notion of the game too.
“I do think we should take seriously this notion of more diversity in offense. And I watch as many games as all of you do, and you know to the extent that it’s not so much a 3-point issue, but that some of the audience, some of the offenses, start to look sort of cookie cutter, and teams are copying each other. I think that’s something we should pay attention to.”

And now NFL has not only two games on Christmas, but two marquee games. This will make NBA even have worst tv ratings for a day that was supposed to be their exclusive day. NFL is a bully. 🤣
🏀 Please Wait… The NBA also had a banner Christmas, averaging 5.25 million viewers per game, the highest in five years. The Lakers-Warriors showdown led with 7.76 million viewers, highlighting a strong rebound in holiday sports viewership.

Some good comments in here. My thoughts:
1) The 3-pt line was a bad rule change in the 1970s. This was in response to the ABA gimmick rule.
...Basketball was designed to be a big-man's game. All about getting high % shots.
...The 3-pt shot was used lightly in the first few seasons. Players were used to working for good shots.
...Now, the angles are totally changed. It's really about setting up the 3-pt shot.
2) The top players are mostly unlikable guys.
...They make a ton of money. They're very distant from the average fan.
...Only a few of the Olympic players were likable IMHO. Guys that are hard to root for.
3) The player opt-outs are too much. Call it Load Management.
...If a fan pays for a ticket, he expects to see the top players. Unless it's a legit injury.
...Shorten the regular season. These players can't physically make it thru 82 games.
...Expand the Playoffs. Change the play-in games. Expand the Play-In to Best of 3 mini-series, so you can recoup some of the ticket revenue.
Still agree with this. Will post a few updates:
1) Nobody wants to say this. No real white-guy superstars.
2) Except for Curry and Jokic, not many likable superstars. Full respect to Lebron, he's been a great pro. I just don't think he's connected to the fans.
3) Regular Season is too long. Fans have learned to tune it out.
4) 3-pt line changed all the angles. Different game now. I like the way the 1977 Blazers played.
5) I'll be rooting for OKC and the Cavs this year. Feel like they're the best representation of Team play.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Okc nor cle is going to the finals. It doesn't work that way in the NBA very often if it all. That's exactly why the NBA sucks.

We'll see, Laker. I know the Celtics are coasting, and I think DEN is a threat again.

We'll see, Laker. My instincts:
1) Knicks: I now believe that Thibs pushes too hard during the Reg Sea. And I don't really like their roster.
2) I'll be STUNNED if it's the Lakers. There's a reason the Mavs let Doncic go.
