The way it looked, the player who had his hand on it wasn't trying to catch it as it was more like he was trying to knock it down but instead he tipped it up making it easier for the trailing guy to catch it. Shit happens.

The Hail Mary is the best named play ever in sports. It is truly tossing up a prayer in the hopes that it is caught. I would like to see defenses start to defend these differently as the same defense is always done. Have like 3 or 4 dudes rush the passer and everyone else is hanging out in the endzone for a giant cluster F of people to try and knock the ball down. Its almost like a fumble with the amount of dudes just jumping into the pile of people.
I would like to see a team rush 5 or even 6 and have the other 6 or 5 guys back around 20 yards hanging out. Make the QB throw it quickly and then get all the defensive dudes to the receiver with the ball as the offensive guy has to navigate to the endzone with maybe a little pitchy pitchy whoo whoo going on. Maybe a dude or 2 hanging out near the other receivers that are behind the guy who caught it.
