I'll admit this much, I knew South Carolina was the correct answer all along, I was looking for a gratuitous way to shed some light on what the Stags did all season,

Sorry about the 'homer' thread, but we're very proud (and shocked) as to what the Stags achieved this season.
I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop since January, but they just kept on rolling.

Jake, that's a great question.
I don't have a good guess. I will say that high-end MLB picks are notoriously volatile for production.
A lot of busts at the top of the draft list. Baseball is a tricky proposition. Long season, and you need some intelligence to make daily adjustments.

Chucky, I heard the one about 1st round pitchers on the AM sports talk recently and was gobsmacked...so there is a small hint for you.

Are there ANY pitchers that were drafted 1st in the HOF ?
I can think of 3. One 3rd baseman, and 2 outfielders.
Only reason I remember is I bought baseball cards for my kids for 2 of them and the other guy is from Maryland from the 70's I think.
Wouldn't bet on it though.
Cool question.

Your hint implies that it's zero or close to zero.
Baseball is a tough sport. And they draft out of High School and College. With the exception of a guy like Griffey Jr, most HS players have to spent some time in the minors.
Injury risk is real. Pitchers normally don't peak til late 20s. Guys like Ben McDonald and Andy Benes were good but not great.
I've thought for a long time that Darryl Strawberry got too much grief. Came out blazing, had personal problems, revitalized himself later with the Yankees. Wound up having a solid career.
The pitcher answer may well be zero. Best pitchers were sometimes guys that scouts didn't like:
*Greg Maddux. Smarter than anyone else, and he studied film b4 other players.
*Pedro Martinez. Scouts thought he was too small, but his stuff was electric.
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

The pitchers question is for the entire 1st round(not 1st overall)...the answer is not zero.
You are correct with the #1 overall picks...there are three (Baines, Griffey Jr and Chipper Jones).

Pitchers?
I don't think there are any.
If Brien Taylor wasn't such a block head, he could have been a HOF'er.
David Clyde was on the fast track to the Hall if he didn't blow out his arm.
Gerrit Cole, I know was a first rounder, he's a lock for the Hall.
I'm a huge Kansas City fan, I know Kansas City drafted David Price overall, he had a solid MLB career, not Hall worthy though.
Being a KC fan, I do know they had the very first ever #1 overall and selected Rick Monday.
I do know Strasberg and Harper went back-to-back to Washington; both have a shot at the Hall.
Ron Bloomberg was MLB very first DH, not Hall worthy though.
I'm not sure there is an MLB pitcher in there.
I read when Mauer was inducted a few months ago that he was a #1 overall, so I do know that one.
I know Chipper and Junior were #1 drafted overall.
There are too many skeletons in A-Rod's and Straw's closet to get there.
I'm going with no pitcher and those three hitters.

Yeah, Moose was my guy, I misread a portion of the question, I thought it read #1 pitcher overall.
My bad.

Good job with that MLB trivia JP, I love those questions that make me think.
I just went to the database; I didn't realize Baines was #1 overall.
Learn something new every day.
One of the upsides of suffering from ADHD is that we retain tidbits of trivia better than most.
We can read only two chapters of a novel than move on to other things while a non-ADHD sufferer can read that very same novel cover to cover for instance, but we do have the ability to retain small pieces of information better than others.
Adderall is a wonder pill.
Back to the Fairfield women for a moment.
They're party animal by the way, always have been.
Something about the Jesuit females.
What did Billy Joel write?
"Come out Virginia, don't let me wait, you Catholic girls start much to late..."
Holy crap, the Stags-Rider game later is now Fairfield -25.5
That's a ton of lumber.
I think Joe Public has caught on to Fairfield, they are a very, very special team.
(By special I don't mean hockey helmet, short bus special lol)

I actually was going to play for the Fairfield Women's team when I was younger
Then they found out I was technically a man, and even though I have a micropenis, they still wouldn't let me play
If it was today I would have sued them and won alot of money
