Today's NFL Fun Fact and a bonus NFL Trivia Question
    Fun Fact:
No New England Patriots players were selected to the Pro Bowl.
Not a defensive player, not an offensive player, not a special team player.
    Not a one.

Who exactly is that a reflection on?

    Trivia Question:
The Cleveland Browns tied an NFL record for playoff bound teams using five different QB's during the course of a season.

Who is the only other team to make the playoffs while using five different QB's in a season.
    And who were those QB's?

Whoever buys the groceries which in this case is Belicheck.

Not sure about the answer to the trivia question.

This is a longshot on the Trivia Q. I'm going to try: 1986 Chicago Bears.

It ties back to the disgusting body-slam incident that triggered turnover at the QB position.

*No peaking. The players that played QB for the Bears in 1986 (not necessarily in this order) were:
      ...Jim McMahon
      ...Steve Fuller
      ...Mike Tomczak
      ...Doug Flutie
      ...???
Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?

Coaches just coach, players are the ones who play; they're responsible.

I'll guess that the other team was from 1982, a strike year, when 16 teams made the playoffs or 1987, another strike year when they might have started two or three QB's in the scab games.

Bill has 100 percent control over draft choices and personnel though.

If you go thru history, I'd argue that Vince Lombardi was the best coach from the Super Bowl era. Pretty simple reason:
*He got the MOST out of his personnel.

The team stunk before he got there. He inherited a team without much direction. Got them up to speed to win within a couple years. They won big. When he left, the franchise declined pretty quickly. Small asterisk on his failed return to Washington.

Belichick had success with the Giants and Patriots. But it does get overblown. People want to equate success with greatness. Belichick was fortunate, he crossed paths with two all-time players. Lawrence Taylor and Tom Brady.

Bill got ran out of Cleveland.
The people of Cleveland literally wanted to string up Belichick by his yam bag after that Kosar clusterfuck.
I read Lombardi's biography several years ago, Lombardi was the consummate control freak, yet gave Bart Starr the authority to override him at the line of scrimmage and call audibles if Starr saw fit.

Nashy, that's a great point about Starr. I remember watching the videos with Vince, Starr and Zeke Bratkowski in the film room.

Back then, it wasn't unusual for the QB to have latitude to "call his own game." I actually love that. The QB is the guy who sees the defense.

One of my pet-peeves in Coll Football. What is with all the line-audibles from the booth? Line up, look to the sidelines, and then re-set. Cmon, sport is a game of reaction. I hate that procedure, and I think it leads to bad play-calling.
