#2As far as TACTICIANS...I'd say NO.
But it's an interesting comment. A lot of parallels between Thompson/Tark:
1) The players really loved these coaches. Thompson, in particular, created an identity for the African-American player. Tark was sincere in giving players a 2nd chance. Watch some of the Chris Herren videos. Tark had an impact on Chris's life.
2) Thompson/Tark each won ONE title. Easily could have won a second. Key games that come to mind, where they took close losses:
*North Carolina over Georgetown. Ewing was a one-of-a-kind player in that game.
*Duke over UNLV. Greg Anthony fouling out late was the difference.
3) If either coach had snared a 2nd title, they'd be higher up on the list.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#3Sonny said those UNLV and Georgetown teams, the players from starters to the last man on the bench all fit the mold of the coach's personality, it's as if Tark and Thompson weren't coaching twelve, but one.
He also said the Fab Five team was one of the top three teams of all time.Comment -

Majerus was old-school. He had that ability of game-planning where he could TRY to get a less-talented unit to beat the better team.
The Regional Final win over Arizona was a good one. That was mostly game-planning. And he had the perfect Pt Guard (Miller) to control the game.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#9My best
John Wooden
Tom Izzo , this guy has to recruit against Ohio State, Michigan and Indiana year after year, he gets the most out of average players. Look back how many all Americans has he had will his success?
Other guys not as high on list
In my Opinion UNC, DUKE, KENTUCKY, Kansas always got the best players it made there success easier.

Bob Huggins Cincy, West Virginia

#11Capone:
*My buddy (and his dad) were friends of Majerus.
Got to meet him. Fair to say that he's a different guy than the funny character he presented on TV.
Yes, as a bachelor, he loved the motel life. Go to practice, come home and find your room cleaned. How can you not like that?
And he did have success at St Louis, which might have seemed like an impossible task. Very tough loss vs Mich St, or they'd have gone further. Majerus was a true basketball lifer, always teaching.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

I think Keith Van Horne was on the UTAH team with the pt guard Miller ? Also this was a European guy too if I recallComment -

*I do remember Ball St's close loss vs UNLV. It's in this bracket:
As for the 1998 Utah team that made the finals, yes, I'm very familiar with that team:
*Van Horn had been drafted #2 overall the year b4, so Keith was gone.
*Andre Miller was a great pt-guard. And he was a great pro, too.
*The Euro you're referring to = Hanno Mottola (from Finland). Goal was to become the 1st Finn to make the NBA, and he did play a few years in the league.
*Michael Doleac was the big center. Played in the NBA for ten years.
*Alex Jensen and Drew Hansen were the other two starters.
*Britton Johnsen was the key reserve. Guy could sky, had some great dunks.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

Kentucky was the team that gave Utah fits. KY knocked out the Utes at least 3x in the tournament. Tough matchup, Utes couldn't match their talent/depth.
In the Final, Doleac had to play vs two future NBA centers. Wore him out in the 2nd half.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -
