Biggest fail I've ever seen. Looked like he was trying his best to throw the game.

not to get crazy, but i never understood why baseball teams don't include a sprinter with 0 baseball ability. they would pinch run and steal bases 90%+ of the time.

yeah no ability to swing the bat. just a pure sprinter. faster than ricky henderson.
the world series game 7 is on the line. babe ruth is on first base. you replace him with carl lewis, he's on 3rd, tie the game.

Ohio State did try and pass on 2nd and 3rd downs, but the rush forced him to throw the ball away. But it was a half-ass play design on both plays to possibly run a safe screen. They should have allowed Stroud to throw deep. Both defenses were gassed and OSU could have hit a big one to score a TD or get the kicker closer. Kid had no chance from 50 with that much on the line. The Bama kicker missed like a 35-yarder against Georgia few years earlier, but at least it was tied and they won in OT.
And I always thought Buffalo screwed up that last drive. Giants D was done, Kelly moved the ball easily into FG range but they settled for a long FG instead of taking a shot deep.

yeah they went with soft screens because they were near fg range, and threw the ball away. plus, in college the clock is stopped on first down, they could have gone medium range or deep no issue.
i had ohio st ml so still bitter i guess lol
re: bills yeah you got jim kelly and you settle. this goes to today...coaches get in field goal range they settle. 2 weeks ago, san fran got into field goal range against the raiders, quit and tried the fg, gould missed, it was a raiders interception allowed them to win the game
i guess none of this should surprise me. sports is full of idiots from players to coaches to gms to owners

And I didn't play HS football. A FG is the equivalent of a goal kick in soccer. Anyone who has played soccer their whole lives knows how to do that. You take a few steps back and kick the ball with your big toe between the bottom third or bottom quarter of the ball and it magically lifts up and goes through the upright. If you kick it too hard it slices and hooks like when you swing an iron in golf with more force that is required. If you kick it too hich on the ball it becomes an onsite kick and doesn't lift up.
Or I could drive up to the high school and kick a few FGs.
I think it is more to do with physics than it does magic.

Yeah kicking FGs is the easiest job to learn in football without special skills. Take some cleats and a tee to the HS and after 5-10 tries you will start making them very easily.
When Messi came to the US they gave him a tee and a ball and he started making 50 plus yards FGs without a coach to tell him what to do. The guy is 135 lbs 5'-5".

I think he'll have to never miss again this year or else he's gone. Teams don't like headcase kickers. They would rather have some old guy out of retiremenr

If the Cowboys lost that game he'd be getting death threats today for sure.. Probably kidnapped and killed if he missed the game winning field goal.
Place kickers are held accountable and some have to go into hiding after a failed season ending missed FG.

maybe cause it is too invidualized to take up a roster spot? it is interesting though
as for the kicker, his only saving grace was he made the 5th. that has to help some.

No player has more pressure, and is expected to be more perfect, and gets less credit...than the kicker.

Ummmm. Hardly. his guy had a great season, made over 90% of his kicks. He woke up on the wrong side the the bed one day and never everyone wants him kicked out of the league. What other player position receives that type of scrutiny? Tom Brady had a bad game and he's still the GOAT. Trevor Lawrence threw 4 picks but was able to redeem himself. How long does it take Maher to redeem himself for 4 mistakes?

the guy gets paid $965k to do that....fail at 4 extra points
every other player on an nfl team, other than the punter, is taking a chance of being a cripple for life

Yeah, but can you make 90% from 45 yards out in a game? I didn't think so.

no, but other than that how is he useful to society. and if he dropped dead nobody would care. they'd find another kicker. dime a dozen.
nobody is tuning into to watch any kicker in the history of football.

People forget kickers still have to maybe tackle on kick off returns. I've seen kickers get laid out during punt returns trying to tackle the punt returner as the last line of defense..

True That. Get more respect though kicking long game winning FG's...
