#37Referee Boger is a repeat offender calling these unwarranted roughing the passer calls.
These calls usually turn a 3rd and long or punt situation into a 1st down for the poor QB who was sacked.
Completely changes the complexion of the game. One of several reasons why watching NFL has fallen into last place among the BIG 6 sports for watching for me. In lieu of watching the MNF game IND/DEN, it was far far more entertaining to watch NBA preseason game Bulls/Pelicans.Comment -

#39yes Ive noticed. he seems to always be upset when sacked even when its just a regular tackle and not a hard hit, this call was petty but nothing surprises me when it comes to this leagueComment -

#41I think they need to make it where you can challenge these calls if you want. Just like with targeting gets reviewed. Let the coach choose whether to challenge an egregiously bad call.Comment -

Here is what the ref says about it...
"What I had was the defender grabbed the quarterback while he was still in the pocket and unnecessarily throwing him to the ground," Boger said in a postgame pool report. "That is what I was making my decision based on."Referee Jerome Boger said Falcons defensive lineman Grady Jarrett "unnecessarily" threw Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady to the ground, resulting in the roughing the passer call on a key third down late in Tampa Bay's win.
First :15 seconds or so of this video shows it all, he doesn't even push on Brady to stand himself up...

That's not the solution.
It was a bad call, everyone knows it was a bad call. It was a reg season meaningless game, atl is crying but they aren't going to do anything this year, they're going to be the second worst team in that division when it's all said and done. No one will care about this play 1 month from now.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

#46Why does it even matter? ATL covered the spread. If they get that sack, tampa punts and mariotta has to drive down the field to win, which he already showed throughout the game he couldn't do consistently, and he definitely wasnt gonna do it at that moment in the game, from his own 5 yard line or whatever. Gamblers are acting like without that penalty, atl was going to win the game. There was probably a 5% chance of that happening.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -

How are defenders supposed to tackle the QB? They can't hit high, can't even reached above the shoulders but they also can't tackle low. So how the fukkk are you supposed to bring a guy down? You hold him by his waist and tackle him, just like Jarrett did but he still got penalized. I guess now they should just blow on them but they'd still get penalized when Brady falls down from being blown.Comment -

WTF were you watching?? Or better yet, what the fukk are you smoking? Brady tried to kick Jarrett in the nuts because he was pissed at getting sacked. He did not push Brady down. You are making up shit.

But you're right, it was relatively about as safe as you can get, and that just shows how absolutely terrible of a call it was. The fact that the ref is still defending the call is a joke. At least own up to the "mistake" and move onComment -

I don't really know how you solve the problem??? Have the refs all on a zoom call and reemphasize what is allowed... and what isn't allowed? I really don't want anymore REVIEWS.... there's no way the NFL would allow more reviews. They are just going to hope it goes away.
I'm a big fan of what Bill Parcells said years ago about instant replay... if you want replay... then review every call during the game... every play. Well we know you can't do that. And he said... well if you can't do that... I don't want it.
I think the games are too long as it is... there's nothing more you can do. Refs need to wake up.Comment -

If you really reviewed the play, Jarrett stripped the ball from Brady. He was then a runner and Brady was no longer a QB, so he couldn't have roughed the passer when he had the damn ball. Refs need to get their shit together and make the right call and reverse it via replay if they fukk up.Comment -

#56The solution is to review these calls and also the horrible PI calls that both extend drives. The game is too fast for the refs. It's too fast for the human eye. We all see one thing but can miss what really happened. Replay is there to get it right. I understand you don't want the game to last 4 hours but you also don't want to rob a team with horseshit calls. So you have to give coaches a handful of challenges. They really should be able to challenge any call, especially a penalty. You lose your challenge, you can't challenge again. That stops the BS. And the review shouldn't take more than a few seconds.

#59Right now... it's perfect with how the reviews are setup. We don't need anymore. I thought it was kind of stupid to automatically review all scoring plays and turnovers. If a coach wants to challenge a scoring play... or turnover.... then allow him to. That takes a lot of time too. Boger just needs to read his ref manual again... and stop screwing up the game.Comment -

#61No it's not perfect. The game is too fast for most refs. They are going to make mistakes. You need replay to correct mistakes. It does not have to take a long time to review a play. especially a subjective call like roughing the passer or pass interference. It was pretty clear that it was a bad call but once the refs called it, they had no mechanism to overturn a bad call. instead of owning up to it, they justified it. No need for all that. Have Secaucus quickly review and buzz in and correct these errors that could cost a team a Super Bowl.Comment
