Thought it would have been the Knicks. But them extending Barrett made it tougher

Incredible haul for Ainge for Gobert and Mitchell

And still more assets to unload in Conley, Clarkson, Beasley, Bogdanovic maybe even Gay

Massive stockpile of unprotected draft picks for Utah

Draft picks outside of the lottery really means nothing these days. This is a star driven league and the best teams have the best players. The going rate for a top level star is 3 first rounders unprotected. DeJounte Murray and Mitchell both fetched 3 first rounders, Gobert got 4 plus 4 current players. No guarantees any of these picks will pan out for Utah. They most likely are in purgatory for many years. You just don't find guys like Mitchell and Gobert in every draft. They just aren't there. Plus it takes several years for the top picks in the draft to finally pan out. Andrew Wiggins was traded for KLove. Lebron left and came back to the Cavs twice before Wiggins started to produce.

The NBA East is a beast. Much more difficult than the West right now. Brooklyn, Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Toronto, Chicago, Cleveland and Atlanta are all solid teams. Detroit is putting together a solid ball club as well. This trade probably puts Cleveland top 5 or 6, maybe even top 3 or 4. If the young guys can grow and develop, this team could make noise in a few years. Great day to be a Cavs fan.

                  And so what ?

None of those players are top level stars and 2 of them are Ainge trades so it seems he's setting this 'going rate.' Murray only fetched 2 unprotected picks by the way not 3

The Knicks have been a joke franchise for years. No star player wants to go to them.

Well that's not true here. Mitchell is from NY and wanted to play for the Knicks. But Ainge's asking price was too high for Rose

What players weren't top level stars?? I'm not following you there?

My point is that the NBA market has reset, just like the NFL QB has reset the market. Atlanta, just like Cleveland, just like Minnesota does not care about giving up 3 first round picks for an All Star. The market has been set. It takes 3 first rounders for an All Star. Teams don't care giving that up. The Spurs will get 2 unprotected 1st plus they get a first round pick in 2024 or 2025 or two 2nd round picks from Charlotte. They probably won't use the pick swap as Atlanta should be the better team but it gives the Spurs leverage and it limits Atlanta because they can't use that pick in other deals.

                          Hawks receive:
                          • Dejounte Murray
                          • Jock Landale

                          Spurs receive:

                          • Danilo Gallinari
                          • 2023 first-round pick (via Charlotte from New York, protected)
                          • 2025 first-round pick
                          • 2026 pick swap
                          • 2027 first-round pick

The Hornets’ 2023 pick will be lottery-protected in 2024 and 2025 if it doesn’t convey next year, then would turn into two second-round picks if it hasn’t conveyed by that point.

Yes, I remember making some coin betting on the Cavs last season. That was fun! ..

Let's see if the magic continues again this next year? Lines should adjust though with Mitchell now.
