Third-year Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson isn’t very impressed with Trey Lance’s passing ability.

After Sunday’s rain-soaked 19-10 Bears win, Johnson said the Bears’ game plan was to make Lance beat Chicago with his arm, and that he was unable to do that.

“What you think he did? He ain’t do shit,” Johnson said of Lance, via NBCSportsChicago.com. “We made him play quarterback. We know he hurt us in the run game with his feet, and everybody knows at some point he’s going to run and make a play. But I feel like we had to really make him play quarterback."

During that NFL draft, I thought it was odd that 49ers drafted Trey Lance over Justin Fields and Mac Jones who were better quarterbacks in college. Trey Lance ran the ball too much in college without showing his passing skills. The GM of the 49ers that drafted him should be fired.

He did alright in the first half before field turned to mud

If he loses at home to geno then ya bust

If he was redrafted given what everyone knows, he'd be picked in the 5th round.

For each game that 49ers’ QB Jimmy Garoppolo plays at least 25% of the snaps, he earns $250K, as ESPN’s Field Yates has noted. If the 49ers win that game, the number jumps to $350K. As the starter going forward, he now has the chance to earn $5.6M via incentives in the regular season.

these athletic qb's are great to watch but they rarely last longer than 5 years. russell wilson the obvious exception. and mahomes still going strong but he doesn't scramble like he used to.

When coaches run athletic quarterbacks into the ground they set them up for failure

they had kirk cousins on the bench, and decided against playing him when rgiii was injured. shanahan had rgiii go out there anyways, hurt and scrud up his knee for life. surgery didn't work
The thing is, these QB's have to play that way to be successful. Look at Bridgewater and Culpepper and others like them. If they get hurt bad and have to be more of a pocket passer, which they haven't been their entire lives, they won't be a superstar no more. Let's say Lamar Jackson hurts his knee and recovers after a year. Unless he fully recovers, if he's forced to play more of a pocket passing game because of the lack of mobility, he won't be a superstar no more and probably not even a starter. Not for long anyways I don't think. Steve Young was amazing but if he couldn't scramble at times like he did because of a knee injury, I wonder what his career would have been.

It happens to receivers also. Remember Ed McCaffrey for Denver and Jordy Nelson for Green Bay. Both were one on the best before hurting their knee and never were the same when they came back. Heck, how good of a RB was Todd Gurley before hurting his knee.
