#5He was incredibly talented on the ice. My young years I remember watching him and Trottier and Gilles vs the Bruins a lot.
He was a smoker and it was lung cancer.
Mike Bossy, one of hockey's most prolific goal scorers and a star for the Islanders during their 1980s dynasty, has died at the age of 65.
Mike Bossy, the Hall of Fame sniper who helped the New York Islanders win four straight Stanley Cups, smoked while answering postgame questions from reporters...

#7Nowadays you can’t even name a hockey player anymore the sport went totally to the toilet
It’s very nice cult sport
Almost every book will tell you they take very very little action on hockey especially USA players
Once a sport lack superstars and dominant teams It becomes lackluster like the PGA tour and now we’re entering that in tennisComment -

*In Bossy's rookie year, he scored 53 goals and accumulated only 6 Penalty Minutes.
Laker, if you want a couple Bossy cards, PM me your address and I'll send your way. Would throw in a Hawerchuk card, too.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#11*Bossy won the Calder (ROY) in 1978.
Laker, I'm sure you know this. Did you know that the Calder was one of the FEW awards that Gretzky didn't win?
*Because of a technicality, Gretzky wasn't eligible for the Calder. The NHL considered his one year in the WHA and deemed him ineligible for the Calder. In 1980, Ray Bourque won the Calder.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#28Laker, I love this story about the 1983 NHL Finals. After losing four straight to NYI, Gretzky walked into the Islander locker room to congratulate them. Gretzky said it was very quiet and that their guys were very banged up:
The loss in 1983 was a humbling experience for the up-start Oilers, who were young and confident. However, Gretzky credits that loss with teaching the Oilers what it takes to win. And in fact, the Oilers would ultimately win four of the next five Stanley Cups and five of the next seven.
"We walked by their locker room in the corridor and saw after they won they were too beat up to really enjoy it and savor the victory at that moment," said Gretzky. "We were able to walk out of their pretty much scot free. We had so much respect for the Islanders players and the Islanders teams that we learned immediately you have to take it to another level in order to win a Stanley Cup. And that’s what we did. We learned from it and often credit for the Islanders players and Islanders teams for teaching us exactly what it’s all about and how hard it is to win."Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#34Ya. I've heard some slightly different versions of this story. Makes sense, tho, Islanders won 4th straight Cup, that's a lot of extra games.
Later in the story, Gretzky says that he looks into the trainer tables. Five guys with ice bags on their knees and shoulders. Very quiet, each player has a beer and a victory cigar. I believe the five players on the training tables were Potvin, Billy Smith, Gilles, Trottier, and one more player.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#35My Favorite player of all time ..
I was 9 to 13 when the Isles won 🏆 4 Lord Stanley's in a row and they were and have been my fave team since.
Watching Bossy Trottier and Nystrom on one line was incredible.
I've watched hockey 75 thru around 2005 when I began to tone it down to now and then , but as a pure goalscorer I've never seen anyone like him.
Living in Toronto it's kewl watching Austin Mathews go crazy this season but honestly nothing will ever compare to the Bossy goals. This guy scored from everywhere .
RIP to a legend . 🙏Comment
