As others have said, the club is temporarily under the control of a supporter's trust group. The club hasn't been sold and is not up for sale. It's a way for the owner to step aside so as the club isn't targeted just because of the ownership. The owner declined to comment about Ukraine.

I assume he knew it would be a mess trying to even get his investment back let alone the sale profits if he tried.

Saying any "net" profit goes to Ukraine probably will keep the haters away from Chelsea and might let him out in a better position than otherwise.
