Ex-Washington football employee alleges owner Daniel Snyder sexually harassed her at a work dinner
An ex-employee of the Washington Football Team told members of Congress on Thursday that owner Daniel Snyder harassed her at a team dinner, putting his hand on her thigh under the table and later trying to press her toward his limo. Tiffani A. Johnston, a former cheerleader and marketing manager for the team, was one of six former employees participating in the House Committee on Oversight and Reform's roundtable discussion, which examined the team's toxic workplace culture and the NFL’s handling of allegations of pervasive sexual harassment and misconduct at the franchise.
Johnston and another employee also made allegations involving Snyder, including that prostitutes were hired by team executives after an event at Snyder’s Aspen, Colo., home. Snyder "unequivocally denied" the personal allegations against him on Thursday.
Johnston detailed sexual harassment by team executives, then described how she fended off Snyder's sexual advances during a work dinner. "I learned on one specific occasion that when I was asked by my boss to attend a networking event (and oh, to dress "cute"), it was actually an orchestration by him and Dan Snyder to put me in a compromising, sexual situation," she said.
Johnston said she had to remove Snyder’s hand from her thigh under the table while trying to sustain business banter “to avoid a scene." After dinner, she said, Snyder insisted she join him in his limousine for a ride to her car as he placed a hand on her lower back and pushed her toward the vehicle’s door. She declined and broke free after his attorney intervened and said, "Dan, Dan, this is a bad idea … a very bad idea, Dan," according to Johnston. Johnston said she reported the incident the next day to a senior official, who told her she "should not repeat this story to anyone outside this office door."
