I'm trying to think who is the better QB for the Cowboys Dak or Romo?
Tough choice but I think I'd go with Tony Romo in his prime over Dak now.

8 seconds to spot the ball??? 8 seconds He stood in the same spot for the duration of the most important play of the game. He then sprints 40 yards??? That's correct???? OK That's why you can blow the whistle and players stop. Other team keeps playing and scores a TD. Seems fine by me....Get the fook outta here!!Ya sleep with apes its hard to be clean!

Enberg, one of the faces on the Mt. Rushmore with Al, Bob, Vin... was so great, so low key that even though will be forever unforgettable people still forget.
(if that makes sense)

Remember Jimmy the Greek, great man. Got caught up in the cancel culture. One minute a hero, next minute nobody wants anything to do with him.
Remember this mysterious guy, now I'm that guy. Jimmy you will always be missed.

As for Enberg I remember for always smiling, he was sunshine. Always made you feel good. Yeah as everyone who was around he was the big thing back in the day, like Madden was in the 90s.

Hockey?
That's a totally different animal, calling hockey is pretty damn much an art form.
It's extremely difficult.
That's why I always say (IMO, its all subjective though) Emrick was/is the best there ever was in any sport on any level.
The more prepared you are the easier it is.
*not for nothing, my two cents*
Kevin Harlan is the most entertaining in the business today, he's great, not the best, but great nevertheless.

My buddies that work in the industry tell me that Buck and Aikman are air tight, thick as a brick if you will.
They're pretty much BFF's and have been for awhile.
And I've explained why Buck is top man in Fox's booth, only because of his lineage (mainly his deceased dad Jack) and the Buck family ties to Anheuser Bush and the Budweiser ad money.
Not to mention Aikman has a ton of juice around the NFL still.
Rodgers will talk to him, Brady for some reason looks up to Troy...
Aikman has major pull with the players, Buck has pull with the ad-men.
Doesn't mean I like the pair in the booth, on the contrary, I think they're awful.
I don't know Aikman personally, hardly, but I'm told he's a real nice guy outside of football, I know he had melanoma, I think it's in remission now, not quite sure what's going on with him and cancer right now, but they say he's a rock solid citizen.

lol I remember Aikman's first year. He's come along way. He's got that broadcaster's "rhythm" down pat.... he gels with Buck.... that's why he gets a free pass. But yeah... he's been saying some funny sh## lately too.... that makes no sense.

lol That Monday Night Football thing with Dennis Miller a long time ago.... what was ABC/ESPN thinking?? And who was in charge of hiring him?? And then who gave the authorization to do so??? They all need a mental examination.

Miller was a Bodenheimer (and Howard Katz) hire.
ESPN was desperate, the ratings tanked right down the toilet in 1999, so ESPN decided to shake it up with Dennis Miller pairing up with Al and Dan Fouts.
Epic fail.
In defense of Howard Katz, Katz did tell Peter King at SI at that time "it just may work, it may fail, but it's a risk I want to take"
Bodenheimer was actually a very good exec, in my opinion John Skipper who followed is the reason why that ESPN is a laughing stock.
Bodenheimer was the one who made ESPN a force in the first place.
Two years after the Dennis Miller shitfest he put together a team of Peter Gammons in MLB, Mortenson in NFL, Al Morganti NHL...
Bodenheimer launched ESPN radio, made unknowns Keith Olbmerman and Mike Tirico household names also in 1992.
From like '91 (right after Dennis Miller) to (I want to say '97) Bodenheimer made ESPN a mega monopoly, oh yeah, he hired that guy John Madden to work with Al.
It all fell to shit around '97 when Disney got their hooks into the operation, that's when ESPN became 'woke'
And they'll never recover, there is much to much better competition out there now.
ESPN today is like Sony, once a force, a powerhouse, not just has been's.

Good stuff.
Most of these broadcasters are outstanding. Their communication skills are the stuff of envy. The vast majority of people that criticized, if they tried it would fail epically, they'd be the laughing stock of Twitter.
I've done video editing. There's no editing, there's no redo. You never hear these guys cough, hesitate, say ummm, they come up with material on the fly, they don't talk over each other. It's real professional work. All that said...the majority of time I'm watching on mute. If I'm rooting for a team I might listen to that team on Sirius XM. If I don't have a stake in the game, sure I'll watch it.
The only guy currently that drives me crazy is Gus Johnson. I understand his enthusiasm but it can give me heart trouble when he screams.
Buck and Aikman are like milktoast. I got no issue with them, but yeah they're not gonna win awards. And if they're connected, hey I'm a fan of Budweiser too. Only thing that bugged me was Aikman going off about the jets going over the stadium, didn't know he was mik'd up.
A guy who gets just about no credit is Chris Collinsworth. Sometimes he goes off about formation and games and it's incredible information. He has deep knowledge of the game, but the Joe Public would laugh at that idea.

As for pucks, Kenny Albert the best now with Doc retired. Always loved Gary Thorne as well, back in the early ESPN hockey days - Perfect voice for the sport!

We line up so squarely it's almost scary.
I'm on record numerous times here saying Collingsworth is vastly underrated, know the game inside out, and was a vastly underrated Bengal pass catcher too.
And Gus too.
I do a ton of writing, not just here, I use SBR as a launching pad so to speak for my blogs...
Any-hoo, before I digress, and I am the king of digression after all, I don't know how much of my stuff you read but I've made tongue in cheek references to "how many orgasms did Gus just have on that last play" and such.
I believe his enthusiasm is legit, it's just WAY over the top.
I put a lot of that on FOX however, FOX's sports broadcasting philosophy is the anti-CBS philosophy.
FOX encourages that aggressive over the top "HERE WE GO" style of calls, where as CBS wants subdued, let the game speak for itself.
CBS wants the low key "Hello friends" style of Jim Nantz.
I'm glad CBS let's Harlan do his thing however, you ever pay attention to, not just listen but pay attention to a Kevin Harlan call?
The guy is on another level style wise. He's just that good.

Listened to Harlan on the satellite radio for Steelers-Chiefs. Clear as a bell. Some guys just have the "it" factor.
Gus is cool, but I gotta be in the mood.
1. Nothing on the game
2. Drunk, give me some Budweisers
If this is the case, man this guy is the BEST.
I think it's obvious to those in the know. The youngins, they don't know much at all, but they sure think they know and put a lot of ca$h in the books. And for that, I thank all these kids.
Anyways great stuff and thanks for the info!

My pleasure, I love to write, I do some freelance, off the payroll stuff for Rotowire too.
Now that I'm semi-retired I can do more of it, make a little side hustle coin while I'm at it.

definitely.
the best production system imo is the Sunday Night Football telecast. You watch ESPN and Monday Night, like you said with all the woke garbage it has never gotten traction. I remember when they got rid of Hank Williams Jr for woke reasons, said something irrelevant on Fox. They put up music by black artists, the next year they brought back Hank Williams Jr cause hey-we're losing a lot of ca$h without these white guys watching the game.
When Tirico takes over SNF it's dead. How many times has this guy brought up black this, black that, I'm trying to watch a football game guy and get away from the political issues of the day. You got Collinsworth who knows football teamed up with a dead football guy. I remember watching Collinsworth with Tirico, he'd go overboard and get technical with the details of the game. Michaels is a great announcer unfortunately he's just getting too old for it. As so many said, Tirico is a golf announcer, an Olympics announcer-he doesn't know football, and everyone can tell.

Here's an example of bad announcing imo.
Tirico "I don't know if it makes a difference in the play". To anybody, it made NO difference in the play. The corner was not close enough to make any difference in the split second between the call and the catch.
Tirico states the obvious and Brees just goes off on a call seems hard to hear, he doesn't have the "it" factor.
