#10Bauer is definitely solid. Let's not make him out to be great.
Good add for the Dodgers especially with Kershaw a #3 starter now .
Mets missed the boat when they didn't sign Springer. He fit what they needed in a center fielder and making their lineup extend.Comment -

#12Either Bauer, or both Bauer and his financial people are smart.
That's tactic is from page 1 of the "Sports Stars on how to negotiate your next (and final) big time contract"
That ploy most of you guys know by now, it goes like this.
Play one team off another team, make like you are really interested in the Mets even though there's no way in hell he wanted any part of NY, drive his price up, and sign that ridiculous contract with LA
Bauer is a former Cy Young, he is very talented but it doesn't change the fact he's still a nut case.
He'll fit right in there in LA with the other nutcases, like Ferris Bueller, my bad, I meant to say Walker, Cody, and the rest.
The '04 "Cowboy up" Red Sox were nut jobs, but at least they had personality and amused you.Comment -

#13on the talk radio here in NY they are realizing they were used. all of a sudden Bauer went from "Cy Young superstar" to "a guy who got lucky and who won't be able to handle NY". it is funny to listen to the transition.Comment -

#15He's had one good full year
and one really realy good 1/3 of a year in 2020
his other 5 full seasons were mediocre to below avg.
the talent is certainly there. It seems he's turned a corner maturity and professionalism wise. but he also seems to be the type of person that a change or one off the field thing in his life going wrong, could ruin him very easily.Comment -

#16The Mets offered him more cash up front and an opt out after one year! I don't see how you can say his agent and he are smart. If they really gonna bet on themselves take the one year at big money from the Mets. Have a big year and opt out..if not then go along with the remaining 2 years.
Let's be honest the market never developed for Bauer.
Yes I do agree he is probably better off in LA.
Bauer would be a baby in NY with Degrom being the much better pitcher and getting all the attentionComment -

unless it's 55 million for the first year, it prob makes sense to go where you think you'll be most likely to be successful performance wise, AND happy.
the way I heard it, Bauer or Dodgers can opt out after 2021 or 2022 if they want. Bauer gets over 40 million for each of the first two years. its 95% sure there will be no 3rd year.Comment -

#18Ok I was wrong..the Dodgers also gave him the opt out clause.
Wow What a ridiculous contract for him. I get it you pay more upfront for only three years ..but really?
Come on now T. Bauer is a high #2 starter at best. Let's not make this guy out to be a clear ace.Comment -

#19As a Mets fan, I didn’t want to sign him at that price tag. He doesn’t have the long consistency of being great. If he signed that contract and shit the bed, we’d be stuck for 2 more years.
Id rather use the money and extend our home grown Conforto, extend Lindor, and then add Bradley or bring back Turner
If Thor returns and is great, now they’ll be able to sign him as well. If they were paying Bauer, they couldn’t sign Thor. Thor is a fan favorite. We all love him. Hopefully he’s able to return to form.Comment -

#20aren't the mets in need of like 3-4 more pieces? going after Bauer in this kind of deal doesn't really make sense to me anyways.
with the Dodgers, Bauer can literally be a 4th starter or an innings eater and over 162 games, that will be good enough for them to be highly competitive to win it allComment -

Bauer is better than Kershaw at this stage. Let Kershaw be the backend starter. Lol

Bauer is anything but a proven commodity. fukin Trevor Williams has had about as long of a strong streak of starting pitching as this wild card.
I rooted for him and touted him and his talent all last year. But it's not a gamble in the short term, that fits every team in this case.
I'd love to see him strike out 370 this year and win 25Comment -

I was going to post pretty much what you said right now.
Like Arch said he's had one outstanding season, one very good season, and the rest were just OK.
Bauer's career ERA is a high for a staff ace or even a #2 rotatiion guy. (It's 4, well 3.8 close enough)
His career WH/IP ratio, a metric I rely on heavily, is ordinary.
He gives up a homer a game on the average.
He only a two pitch pitcher, he's a fastball/curveball guy, he'll throw the curve mainly to set up the fastball.
Half his pitches are fastballs, it's a very good fastball which is why he strikes out 10 per nine innings.
But his fastball can be taken deep, not like say a Bob Gibson who's fastball you couldn't hit ever.
Bauer's pitching game is solid, but it has flaws. (Just like his brain)
Looking back on it though you think the Arizona Diamondbacks wished they never traded him 10 years ago in that screwy three way trade?
The Snakes in retrospect got a box or rocks from Cleveland. The third team involved in tat deal were the Reds again in case you're wondering, and chances are you were not. lol
But this is baseball, where pitchers are at a premium, and if you have a live arm you can make a fortune.
Mets I think, but I am not positive, traded Steven Matz to the Jays for what? A rookie pitcher Diaz who has not proven thing one yet, thinking they had Bauer locked up. Mets just traded for Yamamoto from the Fish for a minor leaguer. I mean Yamamoto is serviceable but doesn't strike fear in any batter.
Now what?
This just in, Dexter Fowler was traded from the Cards to the Angels.
I always liked Fowler, still do.
He brings a lot of things besides offense which is only ordinary.
Cards get cash and that guy "the player to be named later"
That guy "the player to be named later" sure does get traded a lot.
Jeez, I'm going to be busy weekend it looks' like.Comment -
