I have been able to have my annual fee waived on all ************ this year in light of the PANDEMIC. Once the fee appears on my statement, I call in and ask to have it removed in light of the global circumstances. In every case the agent removed the fee without much discussion. This is especially easy to do if your card offers any travel related benefits (lounge access, travel insurance, car rental insurance, airline perks, etc.) since most people aren't traveling much at the moment and many airport lounges, for example, are closed.

Worth a shot.

Depends on the benefits offered and how often you might use them.

Free airport lounge access is worth a lot to someone who travels by plane frequently. Worthless for someone who doesn't travel at all.

Geico gave me a $38 rebate on the auto ins policy renewal before the last one. You can only buy for 6 months here in Virginia. The last one which just kicked in a few weeks ago, there was no rebate .. LOL There is no more travel now than it was 6 months ago.

My cards don't have annual fees either. That should be the first thing you look for when applying for CC's. That and cash back rewards.

Discover, AMX and my Citibank visssa are all like that. No annual fees. 2 and 3% cash back on most purchases.

If you pay the card in full monthly it's + even with the rebates for groceries etc..

That's exactly what I do on all my cards. Pay them off to a zero balance every month. I do that religiously, and never carry a balance. NEVER..

On the surface it seems like a win win for the consumer but it's just an example of big banks creating a racket

They pay you 2% back of their 3% charge on the business who had to increase prices to pay for the 3% credit card charge, so it's a net 1% increase in cost for the consumer. In the end the banks are the only winners.
