#72I often tell gamblers tips aren't necessary because I know the value of waste on tips, food and drink and maybe women. I'm a gambler. I understand this to my coworkers dismay.Comment -

#73I do tip often for stuff only because I feel guilty when I don't. At work I go to the bar to get a Pepsi or water and I tip the bartender even though I get it all free. Now, part of that is I hope I'll get something in return another day. But, pizza, chinese, food in general I tip, it's only a status quo thing honestly.Comment -

#74Personally I think employers should be required to pay a proper wage, and that is the only reason there is a tipping culture in the USA. Free market there allows employers to pay some staff like a 3rd world sweatshop.
$18/hr minimum wage for all adults sounds like it might hurt, but the social benefits are well worth it.
And businesses still make the same profit as now in the long run. Market forces determine that..Comment -

#75Market value is about 17$ or 18$ an hour to employers who know their making money. Yes. My employer pays me well because I'm very good at what I do. Alot of employers under value ppl and that's a real problem.Comment -

#77Some of you are confusing NOT tipping with mad about tipping
I dont want to tip, but I do when Im in that situation and usually 20%
On a separate note....I mainly tell people "I dont need the change" when at a fast food place or gas station and use cash that way they can do whatever they want with the buck or two without being offended that i am leaving them $1. They can take it or just leave it in register for someone that has a bill of 10.02 during the shift
I prefer to tip for acts of kindness. Guy was getting used/broken stuff from garbage during college years. obviously college students just throw away alot of stuff that they dont need when they move apartments... turns out he is a preacher (he definitely didnt look homeless) and was looking for decent stuff to give people so i gave him a $20 (all I had at the time).
unfortunately i stay in my parents basement all the time so hardly ever catch anyone doing a good deedComment -

#84There are some places where tipping has become such a norm and convention, that if you don't do it, you are a complete asshole. This would be restaurant meals, bar service, poker games, haircuts. I really don't like tipping, especially a large percentage of the price (20 - 40%), so I use choose to use services rarely. Not drinking at a bar, and getting a hair cut every few months instead of every few weeks is not that big a deal.
I much prefer to give unexpected tips, like at 7-11 or the grocery store. Only have to give $1 instead of $10 at a restaurant, and it is so much more appreciated.
There are other places where management uses customer tips to exploit workers and pay them less, like hotel maid service. The issue here is that the people who tip subsidize the people who don't. Management should just charge higher rates and pay the workers more. Almost everyone would be better off. The only people who would be worse off are the freeloaders.Comment -

why should completely awful service get 15% yet great service gets 20%?
the whole premise is ridiculous... i'm the asshole for not tipping a grouchy terrible poker dealer? just because i won the pot? why does he deserve anything for making the game LESS fun. and a ticket writer? usually they are the same level of grumpy, and it feels like you're nothing but a nuisance to themComment -

#89I heard this new strain of Corona virus kills 10% of everybody that catches it regardless of age. Most likely 33 million people to die in the USA and almost a 75% kill rate for essential workers in bars, restaurants, airports, public gatherings, sporting events, churches, libraries, court houses, capitol and legislative facilities, stock market, hospitals and nursing homes.
You won't have to tip them much longer as either you or they will be dead.Comment -

That’s not how the economy works. If you raise the minimum wage to 18 dollars and workers financial value to a business is only 10-12 dollars an hour they will just lay people off and cut their hours, they will invest more in automation too. The cost of living in different parts of the us varies significantly too.
All good things for a healthy rich Western economy..Comment -

Live free or die.
Baffling how so many people are content to "live" in fear and isolation as the months (years?) pass them by.
Immune systems will be ineffective by the time they finally come out of the basement. Lack of exercise. Poor diet. Lack of vitamin D. Overuse of hand sanitizer. A common cold will land them in the ICU. Salud!Comment -

#105America’s worst enemy in the battle against Corona is America itself.
People at low risk either do not care about people at high risk or are too stupid too realize the virus can be spread by asymptomatic persons.
We have been lied to by stupid people with agendas who do not care if people die.
The problem is not just someone wanting to live the way they want to live and putting themselves at risk. They are putting a massive amount of people at risk they do not even know by being a spreader.
A person at risk does not put a person of low risk at risk.
I know of several cases where entire families (mother/father - 3 kids or so) all got it and passed it to the grandparents and one of them died.
Only solution is for the people at risk to wear a mask and live in a bubble. They have to live a different life and have no contact whatsoever with the outside world. The outside world is killing them if they try to live. I am not saying they are murderers because most do not even know they are spreaders.Comment
