I don't understand why BOL didn't have a backup of their site on another server. They could have forwarded all traffic to that site while they sorted out the bad one.

It's possible that if they were attacked, then the subsequent forwarded site would be attacked as well. Both would be down anyway? Again, I'm no computer genius here and never claimed to be so.......

I would be surprised if a site that large didn't have some sort of failover. But that does no good in the event of a DDoS.

Some people still don't understand the situation. It's a ransomware attack. They either pay off the hackers, or they don't. If they don't, then they have to rebuild everything from backup data. Who knows if BOL backs up their data properly and if so, how long it will take to rebuild everything. STATS Perform -- a giant international data provider -- has been down for 9 days due a ransomware attack.

I'm hoping for the best here, but there is some chance this outage persists for a long time and/or there is some loss of data.
