#37Yeah, but there will always be the bad cops and there are institutional issues in some places.
But even then, why the hell is there absolutely no discussion about how to behave when a cop has a gun pulled on you?
It seems like everyone, including a ton of people at SBR, want the phrase "stop or I'll shoot" to be a bluff.
I advocate situations where they don't have to say that at all, but that's not where we are now. So in light of that, why is there no discussion on how to behave now. It's pretty clear, injustice or not, excessive or not, the a common thread of resisting arrest and putting the police in dangerous situations is never, ever addressed.
There isn't even a common thread from the police perspective. There's little evidence of racism in any of these videos. Floyd wasn't racism, this recent jacob shooting wasn't racism. Sometimes it's a power tripping cop, sometimes it's a situation that never should have been, sometimes it's outright self defense for the cop. Sometimes it's jsut the cops fault, sometimes it's shared responsibilty, and sometimes it's a shootout.
But it's almost always resisitng arrest. The few situations where it is not are even more horrible, even more tragic, and even more avoidable.
So what the fuk? Even the black community, including pro athletes, have given up on black men, completely given up. No fatherly advice on how to watch out for cops, no education on how the constitution works, nothing.
They've left there own people for dead.
So sad.Comment -

#38I keep hearing "they're doing this for all of young black men in America and to pave the way for future young black men so they don't have to go through this."
When you think about it, the NBA boycott is going to have virtually zero effect on "paving the way" for future black people in this country. However, what it WILL do, is effect the futures of players that have yet to be drafted into the league. Those are the futures current NBA players are affecting, and doing so in a negative way. If (when) the league starts to feel the pinch from all of this, it's going to be rookies and guys that are going to enter the league in the next decade that are getting squeezed.
So, by demanding change, they essentially receive no change, but they "win" the PR battle. They also set the league back who know how many years and did nothing for the future players of the NBA. The irony is comical.Comment -

#39They wanted to do more. But realized quickly they would violate the CBA. They stayed for the money. Which is fine. But at least play your hand better.Comment -

#40They need a leader.
It's a bunch of mouthpieces, with no leadership or organization.
They're following the Kap playbook when we've all learned from that groundbreaking move that was also full of tactical mistakes. After all, he started a war.
No unification is because there is no leader.Comment -

#41What this accomplishes is bringing the issue to light. Unless this is brought to the forefront, nothing will change. The more it is talked about - tweets, threads as this one and multitude of others.. doesn't matter if the conversation is positive or negative.. this has people talking and wondering what we can all do differently.Comment -

There's no need for kid gloves. We're talking about adults with blatant disregard for authority, both in the history of their actions in the community and their interactions with law enforcement that lead to sensational outcomes like the Blake incident. He knew what the officers were demanding of him and made the conscious decision to do the exact opposite. Nobody demonstrated a lower value on the life of Jacob Blake than Jacob Blake himself.Comment -

#47I'm not talking kid gloves eddy.
I'm talking about Doc Rivers saying that no white father ever had to tell his son to watch out for the cops when you get pulled over.
How can the guy say something like that and not talk about your conduct around said horrible cop? Shouldn't all fathers say don't fuk with cops like that?
Just fukkin crazy.Comment -
