Please. A computer pumping out predictive stats has more "feel for the game" than millions of broke, ex-athlete sports bettors.Comment -

are you telling me that most men that gamble on sports have never played tennis/golf/baseball/basketball competitively? that's downright stupidComment -

#10Athletes are often the squarest bettors, they just bet the "better" team all the time with no regard for anything else. The only one I kind of like is Paul Lo Duca.Comment -

#11Yes I absolutely believe for some people who have played a particular sport or sports it gives them a better understanding of matchups and such.
Not everyone though.Comment -

#12NO.. I played 3 major sports at a very high level in my life time and it had no effect or influence at all with my sports gambling.
Discipline, mathematics, patience, a good eye for trends and streak finding makes all the difference in sports betting IMO...Comment -

Then surely you understand how big a role matchups play jibbs.

#14Hman, I'm not a math guy nor a pro... But I handicap games on matchups. That's all it is really. Correlations due to multiple matchups. It doesnt take a psuedo athlete to understand that.Comment -

#22Originally posted by TigerWoods4Anyone who plays sports and is unable to parlay their athletic experiences into sports betting skills is just not very bright
like I said, my extensive athletic experiences have made me a much better sports bettor
in real time ...maybe you mean knowledge of the sport's dynamics like what a post route or what a change up is? Can't you learn that, though? And even if you know what a primary pitch is for a certain pitcher, does that mean he pitches it in the specific spot that you imagined he would? And can't you -train- AI to incorporate this information into numbers better than your brain can?Comment -

#24This is the reason I posted this. Cause I'm meeting hundreds of ex soccer players who swear they win cause "they know the game. " I'm trying to convince them its a question of knowing the league (I think colombian soccer is more money than talent) and luck.Comment -

#25Some have the knack of understanding matchups and some don't.
This is something learned as early as pickup games in the local neighborhood.
The other guy just picked 'Joe' with his first pick who is easily the best scorer on the court, but you counter by using your first pick on 'Mike' who isn't the best player but for some reason always gives Joe fits.
This is no different in professional sports.Comment -

I'm gonna search for the rest but lots of digging to find the threads.
These are my documented NBA records when I used to post them on the forums (still looking for rest to copy and paste)
Much of this success is due to understanding players vs players/team vs team.
It's not always beating the number and that nonsense.
2006/2007 NBA Record: 254-214-8 / +50.41 Units
2007/2008 NBA Record: 166-143-1 / +31.32 Units
2008/2009 NBA Record: 262-229-11 / +32.74 Units
2009/2010 NBA Record: 289-242-8 / +96.12 Units
2010/2011 NBA Record: 68-59-1 / -0.30 Units
