Timing is everything. As a new coach you get at least two years. Had he been head coach in place of Doug Collins then maybe he gets the axe and things turn out very differently -instead he got the top job just as Jordan & Pippen were maturing. He arrived in LA after the summer in which Shaq hit the weights, and Bryant matured. If he didn't go all the way in '00 then surely in '01.

My point is coaches with a legacy only take premium gigs. Some day his disciple Kerr will take a break from coaching to rest/ spend time with his family. When he returns you can bet it will be the most sought after coaching job in the league at that time.

there is no better coach of talent. after righting and then directing the bulls ship to 6 titles, he saved the lakers not once, but twice. role players must play their role with him and it is clearly defined. kobe was floundering before phil came back the second time and won 2 more titles. kobe hated phil after he trashed him in his book. lebron will have to be a professional and that consists of working with people you don't like, and doing it for the result.
