Back in the day. I was so naive & ignorant. I'm dumb today. How stupid I was then. Seeking a positive outcome with a negative plan of attack.

#4It is for 99.5% of people, a miserable existence.
The hours you must put in.
The per hour payoff breakdown is not worth it for most.
No family life and forget having kids.
It can be done, but at what price?Comment -

#5Me and Ken nailed a 40k DD one morning. Like kids in a candy store. Ken punched it in wrong and Henry said he'd pay us but we'd never bet there again. We stayed but Henry was wrong that time. What a paradigm shift.Comment -

#2915-20% take by racetrack, basically impossible to win. Plus, the losing money will not equal much...it is not like you have old guys betting 1k a pop per race...its a dying industry.
Also "hit 40k on a DD once". You made that sound like thats a dream amount. 40k? That would cover my annual bills here outside of DC. That would not last more than 9 months in California.
There is no career path with professional gambling. If you do it and then try to go get a real job, you get laughed at in over 50% of interviews. The rare time someone will move you on to next round is if they are a degenerate themselves and your "I traveled and gambled for a living" hit a soft spot of their own delusions of grandeur.
So many people have this delusion of grandeur around gambling. Even if you win, you likely are miserable. Whenever i read that someone quit their job to play poker for a living (most common), I feel bad for them. They will regret it, 99/100 will. Sure, early 2000s TONS of fish and free money to be made in poker. Now? Heck no. 8/10 players at a NLHE game these days have at least a solid clue of how to play.Comment -

* Horses. 18 to 20%.
* Poker Tournaments. Often 30% + sometimes even more when u consider Dealer Add-on, which adds nothing to the prize pool.
* Sports Betting 4-team parlays. Pays 10/1 in Vegas, when it should be 15/1. That's 31.5% vig.Where's the fuckin power box, Carol?Comment -

#33That's good info. When u look at the vig attached to different gaming arenas, it's outrageous:
* Horses. 18 to 20%.
* Poker Tournaments. Often 30% + sometimes even more when u consider Dealer Add-on, which adds nothing to the prize pool.
* Sports Betting 4-team parlays. Pays 10/1 in Vegas, when it should be 15/1. That's 31.5% vig.
The taxman is the one that really bothers me. I understand taxes need to be made, but you're already taxing the casino revenue. No other country that I am aware of (Canada and europe) charges tax on personal gambling winnings.Comment -
