Iowa will probably be the next state with legalized gambling.
They almost did it last year, but the session closed before it could be passed.

About a week ago Prairie Meadows (Altoona, but basically Des Moines) announced they were building a sports book.

Now the news is saying that the sports betting bill will be shoved through quickly. I wonder if somebody at Meadows knew somebody that knew something. Ha.

There are 22 casinos in Iowa, pretty well dispersed throughout the state. You're basically never more that an hour or so from a casino, and that's if you're in the middle of a cornfield somewhere.

I'm looking forward to having it available. You can never have too many options.

It's known as really good place to live. Tons of jobs. Low crime for the most part.

There's a pretty cool downtown area (Court Ave) with bars and restaurants. It's more for the younger crowd though. I'm in my 40's and I feel old.

The problem with Iowa is the weather. Hot and humid in the summer, cold as hell in the winter. It's warmer than say Minneapolis or Fargo though. It's a good place to raise a family.

If you like to play poker or bet the ponies, Prairie Meadows has both. They used to have an awesome poker room but they moved it after the poker boom. You can still play poker though, it's just not as busy. I think the old poker room is where they are going to put the sports book now on the fourth floor. It also has the usual blackjack and slots, etc.

If you're driving I-80, Prairie Meadows is a nice stop, especially in the summer. They also have "Adventureland" across the street which has roller coasters and stuff.

I forgot to mention Iowa is a juice bar state if you like naked ladies. One cover charge and you get to bring in your own beer and see fully naked ladies.

I think Iowa actually invented that. If I remember the story (it was in Playboy or something), you couldn't sell booze and have nude woman in the same joint, so a place called Southern Comfort outside of Davenport came up with the idea to call their place Big Jim's (or Earl's, can't remember) "Theater for the Performing Arts". I'm not sure if it is true, but I think they even handed out like coloring books at first. That's why it's BYOB. It's just a way to get around the law. Now they are all over the place including a few in Des Moines.

Unfortunately, I think they already signed a deal with William Hill. I hate William Hill. Hopefully the other casinos will be different.

I hope Tama doesn't go with William Hill. I'd like to see an independent Indian sports book. Most of the others will probably choose Hill.

Hopefully they also include legislation for mobile betting, which was two separate issues here in WV. The sports betting part is obviously most important, but that mobile aspect is HUGE for both the state and the individual.

It’s all been great, from the bettors, standpoint here. Lines aren’t insanely juiced like many of this board predicted. The bets are somewhat limited but they’re rolling out more options weekly. Congrats!

That would be so cool to see Fishhead and Hawkeye to start a book there.

I'm not sure if Iowa people are ready for JJ. However, he will always have an open job invitation at the FishHawk sports book. I gotta get on the line with some casinos about opening up a book. I'm sure Fish and I could run it better than whatever other clowns they'll bring in. Iowa won't know what hit'em with the three of us.

I'm sorry to keep posting in my own thread, but I can't get that potential JJ commercial out of my head.

Nobody can write a script for JJ, but I think it should go something like this:

"Get your asses down here now m*****r f*****s and get your bets in! J***s C****t. We got games, we got games m*****r f*****s. We're giving away Digorno's Pizza slices all day long. It's not Tombstone pizza, it's Digorno's! m*****r f*****s!...... J***s C****t. Now get your asses down here now m*****r f*****s. Don't make me come get you and beat your asses m*****r f*****s."

                                  That would be so cool.
