    Texans Owner Bob McNair Dies
Houston Texans owner Bob McNair died Friday in Houston, the team announced. He was 81.

"It is with deep sadness that we announce Houston Texans Founder, Senior Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and philanthropist, Robert C. McNair passed away peacefully in Houston today with his loving wife, Janice, and his family by his side," the team said in a statement.

McNair was the reason and driving force for bringing an NFL team back to Houston after the Oilers left in 1996. In October 1999, NFL owners awarded McNair the 32nd NFL franchise. He also helped bring two Super Bowls to NRG Stadium: Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004) and Super Bowl LI (2017).

"Mr. McNair was an amazing man who made tremendous contributions to the NFL and the City of Houston," Texans head coach Bill O'Brien said. "He was a very caring, thoughtful and passionate individual. As much as he cared about winning, I think the thing I will remember most about Mr. McNair is the way he cared about the players. I know how much giving back meant to him, and his loyalty and generosity to the city of Houston and our community will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with Janice and the McNair Family."

For more than 25 years, McNair chaired The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation, the Houston Texans Foundation and The Robert and Janice McNair Educational Foundation.

According to the Texans, throughout his life, McNair and his foundations donated more than $500 million. McNair was also serving as the chairman of the NFL's Finance Committee.

The Texans' owner was the founder of Cogen Technologies, which became the largest privately owned cogeneration company in the world.

Bob McNair was a great man and it is ridiculous to claim that he was a racist because of his "inmates" comment or the fact that he was a Republican. A man is the full measure of his actions, and McNair was a generous philanthropist who gave away vast fortunes to help others.

The "inmates" thing was the dumbest shit ever.

                    1. McNair wasn't talking about the players.
                    2. The common expression "the inmates are running the asylum" has zero racial connotations.

So penetrating stupid for anyone to think that comment was racist and to dislike McNair for it.

It's really annoying that it's even something people would be talking about on the day the man passes away. So damn stupid. The man received the torch of liberty from the Anti-Defamation League FFS. Gah.

You are correct, which is why people got pissed. They immediately took it as he was claiming that the players were criminals. If he says "asylum" like the phrase is supposed to be, then they are compared with crazy people.

What he should have said was "We can't have the toddlers running the daycare"

The thing is he wasn't even talking about the players. He was talking about the executives working for the owners.

HUH? Of course he was talking about the players. What planet are you living?

McNair was quoted as telling fellow owners and NFL executives at the Fall League Meeting that "we can't have the inmates running the prison," when discussing the impact the players' actions were having on league business concerns.

McNair was speaking to league executives and owners. Who do you think he was talking about? He wasn't talking about executive because he was talking TO EXECUTIVES. Then he straight up lied about it to protect himself when everyone knows what he was talking about. He tried to use Trump double talk to confuse you and it worked on you. He then said that he should not have apologized because he had nothing to apologize for. Straight out of the Trump playbook.

Later on when the owners met with players over the kneeling, McNair said this as well.

"You fellas need to ask your compadres, fellas, stop that other business, let's go out and do something that really produces positive results, and we'll help you," McNair said.
The "other business" to which McNair referred, of course, was the kneeling.

Ask your compadres... Stop that other business, do something productive.

I don't know if McNair was a racist. Who cares? I really don't care. But he definitely was referring to the players, whether black or white players, that's what he was talking about during the kneeling controversy.

I'm not trying to disparage the man but we all know what he said. All of us probably have said much worse. May he rest in peace.

they will play for the owner... and the Titans just got blown out after they put way too much into winning 1 game vs the Patriots while having a letdown in a crucial divisional game

now the Titans backs are against the wall.... they will probably crumble

Houston or nothing... emotional game. Remember the 2012 Colts with rookie Luck having their first chuckstrong game when he got cancer and they were playing the mighty packers and got down big... then made one of those crazy Colt comeback wins with players going all out to win for pagano.

I'm betting the Texans live if they go down 7 to 10 pts at some pt in the 2nd q vs Titans. Especially if they get ball first in 3rd Q.

Bob McNair, the catalyst of Houston's bid to bring the NFL back to the city after the Oilers left, passed away Friday, his team, the Houston Texans, announced Friday. He was 81. The Texans said McNair died peacefully, surrounded by family, including his wife, Janice. One of the NFL's most influential owners, McNair had battled both leukemia and squamous cell carcinoma in recent years before his death. The team did not immediately release a cause of death. When Houston lost the Oilers to Tennessee after the 1996 season, McNair made it his mission to return the NFL to the city. He formed Houston NFL Holdings in 1998, and on Oct. 6, 1999 he was awarded the 32nd NFL franchise.

75% of them did not even know who he was or didn't care who owned the team as long as their game checks were deposited into the bank of their choice.

That they do.. It's played out.. It's there go to move always.. Makes it less effective.. Being called a racist today doesn't have the same effect it once had..
